I can honestly say that I have never owned a car that has inspired the passion that my 2007 GT has. I have owned some really cool cars, trucks, and motorcycles, but I have never had the amount of complete strangers just come up and say: Nice; cool; sweet; car, depending on age. It is like the S197, and espically that GT emblem just inspires passion in car lovers. And it is none of this "Dodge is better" or "Should have bought a Chevy", It is just "That is one sweet ride" from everyone.

That will all change when the Camaro hits the streets... Not to say the Mustang isn't a very sweet ride. But it'll be intersting to see how fast the ego's return to the Hemi / Chevy crowds.

Still, you have a nice Mustang

Last night the "boss" (my name for my wife; she doesn't know that it comes from the movie "Cool Hand Luke") and I pulled up in front of our town hall to attend a municipal meeting in the new Mustang. Two 60+ year old men were walking by as we were closing up the car and getting ready to walk in from the parking lot. They both stopped and starting admiring the car. One of them said that he had bought a brand new 1966 Mustang, how much the new ones reminded him of the one that he had, and how the color of mine was just a little bit lighter red than his was. I said, "yours must have been painted a color called Vintage Burgundy. I learned how to drive in a car just like that." I unlocked the door, popped the hood, showed him the engine and let him sit in the car. It made his day. He was like a little kid!
I think one point to remember is that the first Mustang was the original pony car, and that the current series of Mustang is very reminiscent of that original in terms of looks. It's also interesting to note how many older drivers are gravitating toward this version of the Mustang.
