I'm thinking of getting a Paxton Air-Air Intercooler setup for my 2000 Mustang Supercharged GT. I have a Paxton NOVI2000 supercharger on my car (have had it for 75,000 miles) with no issues running 10 psi.

My question is about the loss of psi once the intercooler is installed. I am trying to find out if I do loose some psi with the intercooler, and if so, how much should I expect to loose?

Once the intercooler is installed, would I be able to safely increase the amount of psi that I am currently running without hurting the stock engine (assuming a good /safe tune)?

Thanks,
Mike

IMO you could spend the money on a better, custom made, intercooler setup (larger core, larger pipes, better setup period). I spent about $500 on mine after all the parts needed and extra wire for my welder.

Expect about a 1.0-2.0psi drop from the Paxton IC, or any FMIC really. Just because you loose boost, you won't necessarily loose power.

when you loose boost though the inlet system, be it a bend in the pie or an intercooler, you will loose power. The point of cooling the air is to allow you to run a more aggressive tune without detonation.

I previously had an sn2000 installed on my 4.6 and decided to go with the Snow Performance methanol injection kit. There is no boost drop and all it does is evaporate methanol/water in the inlet pipe to lower the heat of the air, the inlet air temp sensor then see's lower air temps ad doesnt pull as much spark, hence, more power. I picked up around 30hp from the meth kit.

I have now pulled the sn2000 and installed a novi2000, i have swapped the meth kit on to the new pipe to use on this setup.

If all your going to do is install an intercooler, you will loose power.

If you are going to install an intercooler, change the pulley down a step for more boost and get a new tune you will increase power.

Thanks HTH for your reply. Because of the drop in PSI, I would be changing the pulley and getting a new tune.

I would also consider getting a custom setup, its just that I don't really know anyone in the area that i'm in that I could go to, and I'm not experienced enough to feel comfortable doing my own custom setup myself..in addition to the fact that I don't have the time to do that. I may have to look around here, because $1400 is alot of money for the paxton intercooler that I saw!!

Ive got the Paxton Air/Air and I went from the stock pulley (3.6 I think) to a 3.3 when I installed the IC and went for 8psi to about 9-10psi. The Paxton IC is also good for a very large amount of power, Tim @ MPH told me the number but I don't remember. I went with this route because I didn't want to take the time to fab a custom one up, I guess Im just lazy.

Thanks. Any idea how much boost I should jump to. I'm currently have a 8-10psi pulley. Not sure what that is usuing the 3.x units...but its the stock one on the NOVI 2000..so I guess a 3.6 is what I have now.

If you had the stock pulley (3.6) and that got you 8psi..i'm assuming your tune has something to do with how much boost you actually get? I ask because I had the stock pulley..but on my boost guage I have seen up to 11psi..and was told I was getting a 8-10psi kit when I got the guage. I take it that there will be some varies to the actual psi from car to car based on other factors.

Where did you get you new pulley from?

Thanks again for the replies.
