they had anaddendum on the car.roughly $2000. premiums sticker (from ford) in the $20000,$21000 range. So, they dropped the addendum, charged msrp and made lots of money on a $1400 extended warranty.
i have warned about this many times, you look for the "best deal" and gete screwed.

I am expecting my car to be in next week so I thought I better get this out of the way. I know I that a few of you payed for your cars in cash instead of doing the monthly payments. I am planning to do this, but since I have never done this before I just had a few things I would like to have clarified. I assume that the dealership will not take a personal check for a large amount of money without holding it for a few days. Will they hold your car until it clears or what? Should I get my check certified from the bank first? Would this help any? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I just have never done this before and I don't want to look like an idiot when I pay for the car, thanks.

I paid cash for my car with a personal check and drove it off the lot...no problem. The check cleared 4 business days later. I think it's a matter of your credit rating plus whether or not you have any other equity you're putting into the deal (e.g. trade). If you want you can get a cashiers check but it shouldn't be required. I tried to put it on my credit card to get the points knowing they wouldn't do it because of the discount the CC company charges but it was fun to see the look on their face when I put my card down.

I put the down payment on my credit card actually, I got the mileage. They didn't say a word. Granted it wasn't $30k but it was still a sizable portion.

I would walk in with two guards dressed in full fatigues with shotguns and with the other available hands I'd have them wheeling a gold cart with the 26k stacked on it. I would ask for the owner of the dealership by last name and then ask for your wheels. If they give you any lip put a hole in the show room floor and ask the sleezy car salesmen to dance. No I'm joking just take a cashiers check it should go pretty smooth.

We take personal checks all the time, no problem.

I really like sarcstangs idea. I would love it if you came in with your guards, blew a hole in the wall and paid cash from a breifcase.

But before you open the case, let me tell the owner there are some disgruntled customers wanting to have a word with him--------------that would be worth giving up the commission!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never heard of a dealer NOT taking a personal check. I wrote a 38K check for a loaded Suburban a number of years ago. They didn't blink. And your credit rating doesn't matter. If you are not applying for credit with them they have no right to check your credit anyway.

My dealer uses an electronic check debit system for all checks anyway. They run the check through a machine, an electronic funds transfer is created and the paper check is voided. They get their money quicker that way.
