pcv valve replacement, is this the correct one?

Switching out my intake manifold, figured I'd replace my pcv valve. That metal mesh thing was caked with crud. So I got the deutsch pcv271 from the parts store. Is this the correct one, even though it looks nothing like the original mesh filter? Do I throw away the mesh filter and just plug the new valve into the rubber grommet and the rubber end plugs into the hose? I noticed on my stock intake there was a metal lip to hold the mesh filter in place, that is lacking on my new intake. Whats up with that? I included a pic also.

You have one complete set of items there. You need a screen (parts stores often call it a breather), grommet and PCV valve (the Deutsch part). DO NOT toss that screen. I'd get a new one.

Additionally, for best results, get Ford parts. Some aftermarket PCV valves dont fit very well into the grommet, and this results in a vac leak.

At a min, I personally would use a Ford PCV valve, along with a new parts store grommet and screen.

Replace them all and forget about them for a year or two.

thats strange, i guess I must have been running without a pcv valve, since I didn't have that part originally. THe hose was connected directly to the grommet. That might explain the filthy screen. So what is the purpose of the pcv valve if you still have a filtering screen. That seems like one to many filters to me.

So my second question, I don't have that lip on my new intake that would prevent the screen from falling into the compartment in the intake. Is that a flaw on the intake or are all aftermarket intakes made without this lip.

i was mistaken, I just looked at my hose and the pcv valve was attached to the end. It looked like part of the hose, my bad. my above question still stands, what about the lip that holds the mesh breather in place?

i dont think you need the screen do you? my friend ran with out it and nothing happened....

all that PCV does it let crankcase pressure get out, like say if u bust a hole in the piston, you wouldnt blow all your gaskets out with all the incoming pressure. I dont see what the screen if for?

I prefer to run the motorcraft PVC. Reason being the motorcraft peice has the port pointed straight up while the Douche peice has it 90 degrees.

It's a tough enough spot to get to, but to bend the factory hose over can be a little trickier.

Oh my. If a piston comes apart, there are bigger worries than the PCV valve venting shrapnel.

The screen knocks down oil so you dont coat your intake with tons of oily, nasty vapor. Do a search for guys who dont run baffles or a screen and see what they think about it (they dont generally like it).

So the screen knocks down some oil-laden vapor and the PCV valve acts as a check valve. The hose from the oil filler to the TB is what allows air back into the crankcase.

EDIT: Mike posted while I pecked. To add to this thoughts, the plastic fitting can be broken off to reveal a nipple pointing straight up.

Oh yeah!

Well i never looked at it closely. I saw it was angled and went straight for the motorcraft peice
