pcv valve replacement...

hey
after taking my lower intake manifold off i noticed that where the pcv valve goes nothing is there, its just a wire mesh screen, so i went to the auto parts store and bought a new pcv valve but it doesnt fit in right, the diameter of the the pac valve is too small for the hole on the manifold where the screen is, which made me wonder if maybe there is a little rubber fitting that slides over it or something so it can fit in the larger diameter hole on the intake manifold..does anyone know where i can get one of these or what im talking about?

There is supposed to be a rubber grommet in the hole. Wire mesh on the bottom, PCV on top. Not sure, but the local parts store should have it. The wire mesh is supposed to be replaced periodically also, but it can be a pain to get out sometimes.

Yep you need a pcv grommet...I would go ahead and get a new mesh screen, grommet, pcv valve, and hose (that connects to back driver side of upper intake)...

I would get the pcv valve replaced and working before driving the car hard.

ok hey thanks guys, i appreciate, ill get one of those grommets and wire meshes asap. So the pcv valve hose connects to the back side of the upper intake??? Is there something i can look for back there?

Yeah...if you look from the drivers side fender underneath the upper intake there should be a "two-way" fitting screwed into the bottom of your upper intake...the open end facing the firewall is where the pcv hose connects to the pcv valve...and the other open end (facing the radiator) makes a curve with the hose up to the front of the upper intake...I hope that made sense...I think you will see it once you get that new hose...

ok thanks, il check that out tonight when i mess with my timing which is completely off right now because stupid me didnt mark where the distributor was when i took it off

The PCV Valve opens when pressure builds up in the motor. Without it you will blow your oil pan gasket out or blow your dip stick up and oil will spray everywhere making a mess.

Well I'm sure the loss of crankcase pressure (that mesh filter is probably making it act like a vacuum leak)...that it would effect the above things...like the idle and efficiency of the air/gas mixture being burned...

go get the stuff from your local ford dealer,it'll fit much better than the parts store ones anyway.i tried a purolator one and it wouldn't stay in even with a new grommet and screen.i installed a motorcraft one and it fit like a glove.

I noticed in some pictures that some people have two vacuum hoses branching out from their pcv valve. I only have one, and it goes to my upper intake manifold. Where does the other one go???

the guys at oreillys told me that second little valve doesnt go anywhere in most cases and its ok to just cap it off...

If your talking about the little elbow (looks like an "F")...I believe you just rubber cap it off on the top one?

Mine don't have it...I just have one hose to the pcv valve...

i did not read this whole thing - if you have an aftermarket valve with two fittings (normally at a 90 angle from the valve), you can break that off to reveal one male fitting which should hook right up to your existing hose. the aftermarket valves are made to fit a bunch of applications, hence the extra fittings.

I know my motorcraft pcv valve came with that "f-fitting"...going to change it out when I redo the valves and put new valve covers on...but I'm just going to trash it because my car didn't have one on it to begin with...
