Can someone tell me how the pcv valve screen is oriented in the intake manifold? I have a 1991 Ford mustang LX 5.0

it just slides right in, then you put the grommet in then the pcv valve in.

I'm sure this has already been answered, and if you searched you would have found it, but I'll humor you anyway. The breather screen is located under the pcv valve and grommet directly inline with the lower intake runners at the back of the lower intake. follow the pcv hose off the back drivers side corner of the upper plenum and on the other side you will find the pot of gold you are looking for. Depending on how long (miles) since it has been replaced it may come out easy or very difficult. Usually a pick will grab it. Enjoy getting dirty, have fun. - Peace

don't bother replacing it. Just pull it out and soak it in gas or paint thinner and all of the gunk will come off.

Actually for what it costs, how important it is to have breathing properly, and the relative pain, I would replace the screen, grommet and valve all at once. Then forget it for a couple years. I prefer Motorcraft for the grommet and valve on this one - they fit nice and tight.

Good luck.

Yep just replace it. You can pull it out with a l-shaped pick.

If it were me I'd replace the screen since it's not hat hard to replace, for my own piece of mind.
But as 5LugFoxFanatic said you can just soak it in paint thinner or gas and get almost the same results.
So which is better

Yep, I use a long pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the screen. Other methods are a long pick, drywall screw and magnet (might be more - those are common).

Is it nasty to get in there? Am i going to do alot of this with feel? Maybe i should get a small mirror to see what i'm doing? I'm sure it's not too hard but there is going to be little space to work with. Thanks.

It's not nasty but any mean, more like a PITA , because it's at the backside of the lower manifold and hard to reach.

...if you've got a mirror, it might help you...mechanical fingers would work well too
