I have a question. On a stock 2001 GT, when you remove the front shock, there is a metal spacer on top of the dust boot.

Now here's my question, do I reuse that metal spacer when I'm putting new aftermarket front shock? No C/C plates BTW.

My suspension kit that I put in is the Ford Racing M-5400-A

Keep'em there's a good chance another set of struts won't have them or the next set of C/C plates.

if it's the long cylinder shaped one then yes put it back on unless the kit came with one which i doubt it but yeah i reused it when i did the struts on my brothers 5.0 i believe that all that comes with the kit are the bushings

Yes you need to keep the plate's to reuse. With the suspension kit you are installing C/C plates will not be needed. But do get the alignment checked shortly after the install.

I changed my shocks and there was no spacer that I can remember. The top nut screwed down right on top of the dust cover. And I changed out the stockers...

I think he meant front strut? Can you clarify that Twitch?

What shocks/struts did you end up getting since I last posted about my setup Kilgore?

Yeah, I meant STRUT on the front sorry... I changed the shocks and struts last summer. I put in Gabriel SVTs that I got at AutoZone for ~$100 for two shocks and two struts.

The stockers were absolute crap but I could not afford the Bullitt kit so I went with the Gabriels. They are holding up well I think...

No spacer... I do remember that the Haynes manual said to not re-use the top nut on the struts. The new ones came with a new nut so I used the new one...

Yes, do use the new nut. If I remember right from the rod up, it should go in this order:

Bump stop
Steel plate
Rubber bushing
Metal washer
Nut

This is on the struts.

I am doing this install tonight, any pointers / advice, i did the back last night in about 2 hours.

when you remove the strut, just have the new one next to it, remove the nut fron the old one, take off EVERYTHING that is not part of the strut, and then slide it over the new one.... saves on headaches

just make sure you put a jack under the control arm when you take of the strut because the spring could pop out
