Hey guys,
I'm new to the site, so I'm just introducing myself. For future reference, my name's Ken and I own a 98 GT 5M :SNSign:

Anyway, I have some questions, of course. It involves the the way my car starts. Ever since I bought it, it takes a while to start. It cranks just fine, but I have to crank it for sometimes 4-5 seconds, stop, then crank it again for it to fire up. This is only for a cold startup. If I start it, turn the car off, and start it again, it will fire right up. I could start it 20 times after the initial startup and everything is fine. But if I leave it sit for about 15 minutes or longer, it'll do the same thing.

I've replaced plug wires, coil packs, and spark plugs and it does the same thing. But every once in a blue moon, it'll fire right up after a second or two. It's very frustrating.

I have a few other issues that may be related. When the AC is on, if I'm sitting in traffic, I get a strong smell of gas. It goes away once I get going, or turn the A/C off. I'm also triggering code P1131, lack of H20S switch. This may be due to a bad O2 sensor. But would a bad 02 cause my car to start so slow? I've also had problems with a rough, bouncing idle, but that hasn't happened recently. And when I push the car to high rpm's, it'll sometimes develop a small miss.

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy. Thanks guys.

hey ken welcome to stangnet. the small miss could be the spark plugs have you changed them. they may be causing the slow start as well. the gas smell may be due to a leak and the rough idle could be becuase of a bad EGR valve.

Change your fuel filter. Also check your fuel pump and fuel pressure.
