Im considering adding an MSD box to my current set up, wich consist of a stock dist. with a pertronix unit, my questions are the following:

a) will I see any performance improvements??
b) will i run into any potential compatability problems between the pertornix + MSD running togetehr??

Thanks in advance!!!!

hehe, i had issues hooking up my MSD 6A box because of the Ignitor. it worked, just had to get creative. only problem was: that wasabout 2 years ago and i have no idea what i did. i'd really like to just replace my dist with the MSD billet so i can just plug and play [not to mention adjustability], but it's hard to justify the money.

i don't recall noticing a huge difference putting it on, tho. it was more little things like starting up and fuel efficiency and throttle response, but not like raw power.

if you need, i can take pics or maybe draw a pic, but that'd require going outside and i dont' know if i can bring myself to do that right now.

There is no problem with Pertronix triggering the MSD, however the spark MSD creates is not very consistent with the dinky original distributor cap and rotor on the early Ford distributor. It doesn't contain the hotter spark very well. The spark is so hot it just jumps posts in the cap and leads to misfiring. If you can find a better cap and rotor for the early Ford distributor then it may work okay (high voltage cap and rotor). A better distributor would be the Duraspark model that has much better high voltage cap and rotor.

they make adapters for the larger, better cap and rotor for the early distributors. I have a 68 distributor with a pertronix and the late model cap and rotor. this spacer piece clamps to the dist. like a cap does, and then the new cap clamps to the spacer. Dunno where you buy them though. Clearance is tight with it-- it almost hits the monte carlo bar and the air filter.
