pi cams on NPI heads

its a nice swap. cams and intake are woth 10-15 less than the entire head swap. If you have the valve covers off go ahead and get a set of LT headers while your at it. If your not doing the labor, its up you wheter its a smart move. The heads alone are woth 5-10hp, but you get the increae to 10.3-10.5:1, which makes more power.

Im a big fan of the entire swap. that way you have good parts when you break to start over again. Ive had 2 entire headswaps done on my cars. However, many people on this board have great numbers with just the cams and intake. Its up to you what your plans are for your car and if you want good heads for the future.

I've done the Cams/intake swap myself , and i'm not that good in mecanic, I really appreciate the result.
It's not that hard to do. Get the Cam Removal tool from Anderson Ford Motorsport it's a huge time saver and it's really not expensive.

Good luck with your swap, you won't regret it !

I did a PI cam swap in my TBird. This swap is worth 12 - 15 RWHP alone. The gaskets are re-usable. I don't like the Anderson tool, it is not as good as the Ford one. I prefer not to use either tool though because I would like to ensure that the cam gear did not jump while changing the cams.

Alright, all this is cool, but what else do I need besides the cams when I do the swap. I already have headers so thats a check in my list.

That should do it along with a torque wrench. However, you need to use the PI cam gear bolts since the NPI bolts are not interchangeable with the PI's. Also, don't forget to re-install the spacer behind the cam gear. It is a very cheap install if you do it yourself, (worth every penny!). Good luck.

why not go with some after market cams while you are in there? Might as well. All you need is a spring compressor and air compressor.

Good luck,

Matt

Id love you see your setup. I have a river house on the River in Spring Branch, about 20 miles north of 46 and I35. Did you use Murillo in San Antonio?

Cool, my folks live up there just north of Canyon Lake on the Guadalupe. A friend of mine and i did all the assembly and a shop called Henderson Performance tuned it. They are out of New Braunfels. The funny thing is is that it runs 10 times smoother now than before i had the cams installed.

I just added the cams but have had the heads and intake on for about 7 years now. It runs great. Let me know when you are in town and we can meet up. I'll pm you my phone #

Thanks,

Matt

Nope. You should be good to go with what you have.

I see that you are in Pasadena, who has done some of your work? I have some PI cams sitting at my house that are brand new that I have yet to put in :(

I also had 2 pi intakes though sold the one with the aluminum crossover to a member on here that was in a bind. Not too sure if I want to swap on the PI with the plastic or not :(
