I need suspension bad!

I'm waiting on my new stall, as the new one was setup wrong and is LESS than the factory settings , or you would see a whole lot more smoke off those tires.

It was a blast.... except they made me take out my bottle, and there were a few good straight aways.

Let me know what you think. My g/f is getting tired of taking pics and wants to do a ride along, but I think she takes too good of pics to be in the car. What do you guys think?

The pics look good, and the car looks clean! It also looks like you and your passenger are either enjoying the ride, or one of you cracked a good joke!
Vids and pics would be cool. How'd you fair compared to the comp.?

We took video too.... I'm waiting on an i.Link cable to start working on those.

http://www.omrscca.org/

I ran in May - name Paul Brown - I was just there to slide around the track and play.... My stall being messed up gave me NO low end grunt.

But I'll get that fixed and run once more this season. It's a blast, but hard as hell on your car. The tires looked a bit chewed on the edges of the tread too, so I'll have to do some rotating to the back for some custom resurfacing.

That looks like fun and its something I plan to try in my focus. My 95 is just tok damn heavy and the suspension is so worn that I'd be embarrased to see what kind of times I'd run.

Maybe it's just heat distortion off of the concrete, but it really looks like you add a few pounds of air up front. What tire pressure are you running? For a fully loaded GT with stock to minimal suspension work, I'd suggest starting at around 40-42 psi.

For the most part though, looks pretty good!

Very good catch - I figured the tire pressure situation out AFTER the first run. But we only got 3 runs and I didn't have my portable air compressor with me. I'll know better next time. Plus, I'll remember to leave the bottle at home. Guess I'm too used to a drag strip where nitrous is as common as lug-nuts. I've never seen so many calls on the walkie-talkie about what to do. They let me keep the bottle in the trunk only because I told them it had to be safer than leaving it sit on the hot pavement for hours. I had to disconnect the hose, plug it and show them.

Some old fuaker laughed and said that stuff won't help you at the auto-x. The course was opened up for Muscle cars this month, so a lot more straight aways.

I was like really? You've never used Nitrous before have you? He said no. I said, it's just POWER - like that turbo your running on your import.

I can't remember if he was driving the MR2 or the WRX, but he was a little embarrassed when others laughed back at him.

Nitrous is a little more violent in the power curve than forced induction. AX is all about finesse and smooth application of power. A small displacement motor with a turbo will do better than a big V8 with spray. I'm having a good day when I beat the WRX/MR2 guys and that's with a fully suspended car and very lightly modded 5.0L.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, even with the straights, the nitrous would have hurt you more than helped. The clubs I run with would have told you to take it out or take it home. But each club is different in how they interpret the rules.

But as far as I'm concerned, it sounds like you had fun, and that's what it's all about!

I would agree with you on ANY course they have setup so far, except the one they set up specifically for the muscle cars to show up to. There were quite a few vettes and stangs beating those cars mentioned. They just didn't seem to have the grunt needed on those straight aways.

Doesn't matter, I went for fun. The juice would have been FUN - whether faster or not. Right now I've got the wrong stall in my car. ANYTHING would have helped. If my stupid cable would show up I could get the video ready to show you how much trouble my car had... it was sad. I only plan to go back once to the auto-x to run. I just want to see if I'm right about a 2,800 stall being maybe TOO much for a tight auto-x course. I have a feeling on a regular course it'll be just tire smoke. Not that there is anything wrong with that when having fun.

BTW - What do you feel should be my first suspension mod? My car needs to be dropped an inch or two all the way around for one, but if you've had a lot of suspension work done to yours, what was your favorite mod?

Hmmm, my favorite lower level mod (something you would see on a 'normal' street car) would have to be the Bilsteins, hands down. No other mod changed the feel of the car so much as those. That is until I added coilovers to them (which would be my favorite mod of all).

For a street car that isn't going to be too serious at the AX (mainly for rules, not performance), I'd look at SFC's and then quality struts/shocks, in that order.

Just in case it's relevent, I've got MM coilovers all the way around and the Griggs GR40 suspension system up front (tubular K, etc). The rear is still comprised of the stock quadra-bind with the exception of MM road race LCA's.

I'm waiting on Evolution Motorsports to finish their 3-link system as I think that will be going into the rear.
