Damn... I havnt been on here for a while so I figured Id post some pics of my rollcage build for anyone that might be interested. It was the first that me and my friend have ever built and we have no experiance with cages so what I know is from asking around at local shops for advice. If anyone wants to chime in on what I should have done differant please feel free. Keep in mind that its a full custom cage so I still need to finish prepping it, paint it, and customize the factory plastics to fit around the cage so they can go back in place.

1/4 plates at each of the 6 mounting points, theres more welding in back of these plates and the friend of mine said that it would be enough... what do you guys think?

This is a photochoped pic of what I want for paint...with a tribal design to break the two colors. It looks like Xr8d302 might be going for the same look from the pics in the thread he has up here.

Are the side bars IHRA/NHRA legal? Thought they had to cross mid arm.

Looks good. What guage tubing are they using?

Neither... it's not for drag racing, its my daily driver and I wanted to be able to get in and out without the bars in my way all the time. The side bars are used in road race cars from what Iv been told so I went with them for now but I can easily change them later if I decide to stop driving it daily and make it NHRA legal.
The tubing is 1 5/8 .120 wall I believe

Looks good. I will need a cage if I want to run without being booted all the time.

Looks great! I really like the quick disconnect bars, my new roll bar will have them on the swing outs.

I would definitely weld the entire plate in the picture that you ask if its enough on. In the unfortunate event of a roll over, those welds could break... I'd weld them entirely if it was my car.

Kudos for doing your own bar, I'm paying to have mine done.

I can take some measurements when I get home but to tell you the truth... We built it as we went since we are both noobs at cages, useing a coat hanger to find the bends, a measuring tape for straight areas, and ended up with 4-5 scrapped peices of tubing that we screwed up on the bends or lengths.

Thanks... Lol, yea those clevits are made for swing out door bars thats why if you look theres only one quick release pin and the others a bolt. Ill have to buy another pin for it once I get it prepped and painted. About the weld above the torque box, I feel the same way about it so Ill finish the weld all the way around myself.
Yea the good thing about this cage is that I didnt have to pay for any of it, not even the tubing because my friend that did all the welding owes me money for audio work that I did to his car over a year ago so this was just a little debt settling on his part.

sweet job on the roll cage. i would like to see measurements too. i would really like to see how you get all your interior pieces back in.

I like! Looks pretty sturdy to me. I am thinkin about doin a cage for mine to stiffen it up for some road racing and for the safety aspect...I'll be going with the same side bar configuration because I have ridden and sat in cars with the mid-arm side bars and hated it. I'm not concerned with being NHRA legal, mainly because I am not much into drag racing. I like to turn lol.

And on a side note...dayum...your car is low! Looks awesome and I love those Ruff wheels...I may have to get a set of those with silver centers and a polished lip someday

I want to thank all you guys for your comments on the cage build... I was starting to doubt myself after posting the pics up on corral nets autocross page where at first they where all looking at it from a pure competition aspect (its not for competition, its for chassis stiffining/safety/harness bar) and telling me it would never pass tech because of the low side bars and the lack of a cross bar on the main hoop.

Ill post them tonight if I can... I customize cars ie fiberglass enclosures, t.v's, interiors... so Im going to cut out the sections of the factory plastics where the cage gets in the way, make a mold of the shape around the tubing and mold that to the plastics so it will look like the cage is actually built into parts of the interior... should look pretty cool when I finish it

Same here, thats why I dont really care about the side bars being higher either... Lol, the stance is because I have a full airride suspension on the car, I want to prove that it can handle just as well as a coil-over or spring car can... once I get the shockwave and airstrut combo on it and Im making some changes currently so its laying without any air in the bags right now

Thanks... I like those side bars on yours, if it wasnt for my speaker pods in the doors being in the way I would have angled mine more so they end like the kenny browns do

Well last night I messed around with the factory plastics to see what I need to do for them to go back into place and these pics are what they look like with slight modding, lol. Ill have to mold around the cage now... For those that wanted me to give measurements, I dont think you want your cage to be the same dementions as mine unless you are either going to run without the plastics or are willing to go through the same process as I am.
