Ahhhhh, I absolutely LOVE those panels! 67-68 only, one of the rarest Mustang accessories of all time, second to the lighted grille corall of course.

There are repros of those panels out there these days. A perfect set of originals usually sells for around $400 (they are VERY rare) but I've seen them go for as much as $600 on eGay. The repros all run $250-300.

I have a set of originals I'm planning on putting in, and I'd like to see some pictures of the inside of your trunk to see your method?

i'll post some pics after i get home from work tonight. i have some pics of what the holes i had to drill looked like right before i installed the panels. i also just took some pics of how theyre attached, very secure, very clean, and looks factory.

heres a pic of the backside

those are little angled metal spacers that go between the sheet metal and nut. the rest just attaches just like the chrome bezels do.

yeah i thought about blacking out the tail lights too, it would look really clean. but when i finished, the tail lights looked really dark because of the surrounding black. so im fine with how it looks.

NICE!

I saw the Mustang script and thought you had a 68...lol. I love the Shelby wheel too.

How far did you drop her? That is about as low as you can go, any tire-rub and how are the speedbumps?

Back on topic...what kind of hardware did you use there? Looks like some threaded rod and some sort of cylindrical washer/spacer?

The blackout panel was one of the things that attracted me to my car. You just don’t see them.

that is almost EXACTLY how i was working towards getting my car...only things i was gonna do different was leave the taillight bezel aluminum, different wheels and ghost flames

yeah theres no tire rub or any problems at all. i have the 1 inch drop springs in front with 3/4 of a coil cut off. the upper arms are dropped 1-3/4" as well and just 2 inch blocks in the back. the only problem is i probably wont be able to fit wider rims in the front because its so low.

about the hardware, theyre just threaded rods that thread into the panel, with the cylindrical spacers, then the nut, pretty simple.

Where did you get/find the spacers?

Do you know the size/pitch of the threaded rod (to save me from taking my rare panels to Lowes)?

no clue, i bought the repros and it came with all the hardware. they seem like they would be easy to make though, out of some tubing or something.
