Can you guys post some pics of your disc brake setups behind 16, 17, or 18" rims? I'm trying to get a feel for if stock size/SSBC/Granada swap size rotors get lost behind the large diameter rims, or if they look OK. Input/pics would be great!

They do get a little lost. I run standard ssbc front and rear with 17s. It stops great (which is what matters right ), but it would prob. look better if I had bigger rotor setups on it.

Here's the best I have right now

'66 with 17x8" and Cobra disc brake setup

Wheels are 17x8" 235/45 tires 4.75" backspace with special reliefs on wheels to clear the Cobra calipers. No spacers.

Here is the rear 11.65" disc

Here is the whole right side. Front disc are 13"


Hope this helps. Sometimes this stuff can be really tough. I had a hell of a time picking wheels that weren't too flashy.

Well they look wonderful. Are those American Cobra 427's? ... Suggestions on find any deals on them?

Edit: I see from your site they are Team III ACIII ... I'll have to dig more for some vendors/dealers.

The company is fairly local for me

I bought them straight from him, so that I could pick them up and open the boxes for inspection before I left. I think they are carried by Mustang Depot. Maybe a few others.
I thought hard about the mini-lites, but I want to do a G.T.350 package, and didn't want the wheels to stand out too much, detracting from the rest of the car.
Thank you for the compliment. It was a real tough decision. I had photochopped six different groups of wheels onto the car, then printed out the pictures. Had them all taped up to the door from the house to the garage. Every night I would eliminate one more picture, until these wheels were the only ones left.

I used the SSBC kit on the rear and just stock replacment stuff up front,

Your car looks great, I was wondering what you meant by the special relief on the wheels for the cobra brakes?

Has to do with the front brakes

The front rotor has a shallow hat, so the calipers sit very close to the wheel center. If you draw a vertical line from the face of the caliper to the wheel mounting surface of the hub, you can see it's almost a straight line.
In order for the caliper to clear the fairly flat wheel center, the back side of the wheel center is relieved. You might be able to see it a bit better in this picture:
Does that help?

I'm not sure this would be an issue on something like a TT, as the spokes kind of bulge out a bit. Any of the new Mustang wheels are all ready set up for this.

After I asked the question I went to you site and saw they are the team III wheels which I also looked around and saw you can get them with the relief. I know what you are saying with the brakes and understand that many of the non mustang wheels require some sort of small spacer. I really do not want to do a spacer and thought you had the 454 wheel. I was thinking you had an ingenious fix for the issue. Thanks for the answer.....I love the car. I too am building my 66 conv. and those wheels are just right. I guess the best answer is save up for the right wheels and do it right the first time.

The rims don't have any issue with the major majority of brakes. That's a fairly unique problem with those brakes.

Baer 13" slotted only, Coy's C-67

Here ya go, and I think Runt's car has a classy, classy look - nice copper color! I'm a fan of slotted only, if you can get it - no holes gives more swept area, and one job of the rotors is to cool the pads. Look at race cars - slots only or plain rotor. The slots let gases escape and scrape the pads evenly, like a shaver. These are 13" rotors and 17" wheels. Car is not its' final color.

Here are 13" Baer Trackers with 16" Edelebrock 454's in my 67FB. The calipers cleared by only 1/8", got lucky for a change! They look so good that they make my versailles rear disc's (11"?) look bad. The track width did not appear to change much, maybe 1/4" if any. Looks sick with slotted & drilled disc when wheels are clean.

I'm having dreams of 12-13" Baer's for the rears. If only Santa or the tooth fairy could bring them to me. Those front brakes are one of my favorite additions along with the shelby roll bar.

You're right, they'll look like the kid next door's Honduh if the 17-inch wheels have large openings. I put 13-inch front discs and 12.2-inch rears on my 67 to fill up those 17X8 Bullits.
