Pictures of the Billet Specialties Installed

I finally got them mounted on the car and took a couple pictures. I do have a problem with the rear passenger side wheel rubbing the wheel well. They are all 17"x8" and the tires are; rear: 255/40/17 - front: 235/45/17. They dont seem to rub on the rear driver side though. They do come close to one bottom edge of the wheel well on both sides but they dont hit and that edge I think can be "massaged" some. They clear the wheel wells when just sitting but I had them rub when the car was moving on that one side, and I think it was because of a bump. The passenger side also looks like it sits a lot lower. I believe it is the leaf springs are old and sagging. What do you guys think?

im surprised that they rub on bumps cause judging from the drivers side the rear end seems to have retty good clearence i would even go o far as to say u might want to lower the car a little

If you lower it, the problems will multiply. That is, IMHO, too big of a tire for a 65-66 and will keep you from lowering the car much. I had 245/50-16s and had to ditch them for a 225 series tire in order stop the rubbing on my lowered car. Standard-eye 5-leafs might be ok if you don't use a lowering block.

I agree with the size issue, when I fitted my new wheels a few weeks ago the tire shop ordered 4 of the 225/50-16 and 2 245/50-16 in hopes that they would fit. Once the 245's were installed on the car it was very clear that short of rolling the entire lip or grinding it off they were going to rub, and rub badly. Needless to say I have 225 front and rear and no rubbing at all.

I have a set 138# 1" drop 4 leaf springs in the rear.

Hmm...According to Dodgestangs chart, which I used before I ordered them, they should fit with the 4.75 backspacing. I do realize though that the car is 40 years old and there are differences. They barely rub and only do when driving it over bumps. I don't have a problem with the outer lips...I don't need to roll them I'm sure. I ordered some Maeir Racing 4.5 leafs with new 'racing' shackles and KYB shocks from Mustang Depot. I appreciate your feedback though!

It only rubs on the passenger side. The drivers side is fine, and as Mustang Boy said, it does sit higher there and I think thats why it clears.

The fronts are fine and they are 235/45/17 on 4.75 backspacing.

Thanks 68keyblr. I love your car. Those wheels you got are so nice. And no I didn't end up needing new studs, I found the right style lug nuts and they are fine now.

That's awfully kind of you to say I have really come to love the 65 hardtops with 17" wheels...when everything is just right they have such a clean and tight look to them. You car looks awesome!

Are you sure they're hitting on the outside and not the front of the inside wheel well???

If you're that close to the lips, you should be running a panhard bar as well.

They do hit on the inside, not the lips. The lips are fine. I'll add another picture of where it rubs. But that problem will be gone soon. I'll also take some more body pictures later today since it's sunny and nice outside.
