Pin on Cowl Hood Suggestions

When I purchased my 89 Stang it came with a 4" Pin on Cowl Hood. Has anyone had to install a pin on Cowl Hood? I am aware of where to install the Hood Pins in the front of the hood but am a little lost of where to install them in the back or is there a way that I can use the existing Hood Lifts from the stock hood . I have searched various websites and cannot find any info on a company that makes a kit for a bracked to put the rear pins on. Any information would be great to make this installation as easy as possible. Thanks Alot.

i spot welded my original hood hinges in place then used them for my rear pins on my hood.

Thanks man do you think there may be a way that the hood hinges can be used on this type of hood so that it will lift the hood or would it be too risky to the hood if they were attempted to be hooked up that way?

I may be wrong, but hoods with provisions to utilize the stock hood hinges are the "bolt-on" versions; "lift-off" hoods are pretty much a what you see = what you get deal. Far as I've seen on others' hoods, rear pins technically wouldn't be a necessity, since it's the front end you gotta worry about not letting the wind catch and rip off ... although I suppose the rear might tend to wanna lift up and wobble around, or maybe just rattle a lot in place...

Thinking of a lift-off hood, myself, because ... 1. they're WAY cheaper than bolt-ons, and 2. not having to dodge a hood prop rod or bonk your head on an overhead hood is a nice thing whilest working on the motor (perfect example: fiddling with the PCV valve/screen).

I think there are pros and cons to both kind of hood. The lift off hood that I have is not heavy at all so it shouldn't be a problem lifting it off when I need to get under the hood. I do believe that I will need hood pins in the rear though because of the amount of wind that would suck under the cowl.

I bought my car with a lift off hood. He said he had a guy bend a 1/8 piece of steel bolted it on the firewall where the normal brackets would have been. Then he put the hood on and measured and measured then drilled the hood. He then marked the steel plates and drilled those holes.

we did the same thing for my bro-inlaws 68 dart and his pin down hood.

i dont have any pics, but i'll try and get some up later on, i have a fiberglass lift-off 6" cowl hood that extends all the way to the windshield-----looks so god damn mean / aggresive, but i have two big hood pins in the front and then three of those little quarter-turn fasteners running up the side of the fender attaching to plates that i had to weld on which the screws screw into and out, looks very clean and better than having four big hood pins, but either way is fine....

Thanks alot that would be great to see some pics of what it looks like to give me an idea of what I need to do. Once again thank you. I am not doing this project until the spring as the stang is under a tarp for the winter but I can't waite to see the stang once the hood is on. I am only going to primer the hood since I am planing on getting a new paint job sometime in the future and not wasting the money if I am going to change it later.
