Ok this i really getting fustrating!Iam really having a hard time with this pinging nonsense!I have changed the MAF sensor,ACT,ECT sensor, balancer,Kirban FPR,Distributor,IAC valve and still no luck it still pings at 3/4 or full throttle and when the weather is hot and humid it's worse! And if the A/C is on forget it!Now is it worth it to change the oxygen sensors or will it be another wate of time and money?I have had many stangs before,85,87,88 notch,89 and 90 and have never had this problem!thanx

how is the FP at 3/4 throttle? how hot is the motor running (based on stock gauge or aftermarket gauge)?
codes?
good luck.

LOL I had the same problem but never changed any of the MAF or anything like that just got an off-Road H-pipe and never had the problem either that or I can't hear it over the Pro Dumps LOL. Although I have noticed that my gas millage has gone down :D probably cuz I hold it wide open all the time now LOL. What I love to do is get up next to someone down a hill or under an over pass turn the car off down shift from 4th to 2nd and cost a little bit then turn it back on and KABOOM scared the crap out of people hehe. :nice: I know I"m evil LOL

My fuel is set to 40 psi with the vacum off.Never checked it at 3/4 throttle but sounds like a good idea. The car doesn't run too hot the stock gauge reads at about O mark goes up to M or a little past then the fan kicks on.But who knows even though i changed the sending unit it still might not be too accurate.I might just go and try the 02 sensors.I tried everything else why stop now!

ah, i forgot the easy one. what is your timing? seems like the SN's have more ping issues and have to be careful of base timing settings.

Timing is important. Also, what octane of fuel are you running? In the summer I would run 91-93 octane with no more than 12* of timing. You may have a ton of carbon build-up on the pistons and combustion chambers. So, you might want to go event lower timing. Say 8-10* and run the higher octane till cooler weather comes.

rich1223,

Here's one more thing to add to your check list. An EGR system that is not functioning correctly is a definite candidate for causing PINGING problems!

When exhaust gases are re-circulated into the combustion chambers, they SLOW the burn rate since they are inert gases. This means that the computer has to INCREASE spark timing so that the fuel/air/EGR gas mixture completes burning at the proper time for optimum power. According to industry articles that I’ve read the computer will advance the timing about 2 degrees for each 1% of EGR flow, up to a total of 20 degrees of additional advance at 10% EGR flow! So, if your system is NOT re-circulating the correct amount of EGR gases and the computer still advances the timing… you’re gonna ping for sure!

Same thing will happen if your EGR system is sucking in outside air from anywhere that it shouldn’t, e.g. a leaking EGR valve to intake manifold gasket or a leak in the exhaust header to EGR valve transfer tube. Air burns! EGR gases don’t. The extra air is gonna cause pinging if the computer thinks that it’s all EGR gases and advances the timing.

Good luck, and let us know if you get it solved.

I run nothing less than 93 octane all year round and my timing is set to 10 degrees (stock)setting but i guess i'll check it again to be sure.Ok i guess it's also time to check EGR system. What can be done about carbon build up!Is there anyway to get that junk cleaned out?maybe spray some throttle body cleaner into the intake?thanx
