the 99-01 intake manifolds on our cars break typically in the front, right behind the alternator, along the coolant crossover pipe.

This issue was mitigated in the late 01-04 intake manifolds when they replaced the plastic coolant crossover pipe with one that is made of aluminum

PREACH ON! My intake is currently doubling as a water fountain... a water fountain that pisses DIRECTLY IN TO THE ALTERNATOR! Woo!!! Got a replacement sitting beside me though, but no time to swap.

OP: Be careful with cam choice. You are pretty limited before you run into piston-to-valve clearance issues on a stock motor. You can have the pistons notched, but to do that right, they have to come OUT of the motor... so that's a lot of work.

i was just cruising down the highway, nothing special put the clutch in to come to a stop and the engine shut off. thought it was my dirty IAC because i deal with that occasionally, got it to start again but it died almost instantly and started smoking when i finally came to a rest.

Pretty much how RedDaemon described it then? That sucks.

You should at least be able to enjoy some level of vehicular abuse if you're going to have to fix something.
