I’m new to Stang net forums. Attempting to drill steam holes in block per Edelbrock cylinder head instructions and came across a problem I cannot find anyone else experiencing. Instructions say to drill a 1/8” hole using gasket as a template basically about an inch above and left of center between #5 and #6 cylinders. Also the same on the passenger side. Well on the drivers side there is a stud/tread 1/8”bolt??running through the water jacket right where the gasket indicates to drill. Also you can visually see where it ends on the face of the block. What is this thing???

UPDATE!! Ok so this post just became information for the next person that runs into this problem. That stud/rod is actually a casting chaplet used in the foundery when casting engine blocks. Some get left behind and I guess I was the unlucky one. Time to go to the machine shop so I don’t snap a drill bit on that side.
