PLX m300 Install to EGR to twEECer (Binary Editor)

Just wanted to post up a quick little note on the PLX m300 Wideband meter.

Did an install of one this weekend and it went great. The PLX m300 is a great meter, it is very easy to install, but not quite as full featured as my LC-1.

The basic hookup is to screw the wideband into a bung on the exhaust, route a cable into the car (we used the shifter hole) and plug into the unit's display. Off the display there is a 12v power and ground, we probed around with a voltmeter to find a couple good wires for this and then we routed the 0-5v output back out the shifter hole and plugged it into the Signal Return wire of the EGR.

On the logging side of things I was using Binary Editor - the voltage was off by about 0.3v by the time the PCM picked it up, so I made a quick adjustment to the transfer curve (It's linear so only two points really needed) and we were off... easy as pie.

This was a temporary install into someone's car to do some WOT tuning. In the future I will probably rig up an O2 harness to let me plug the sensor straight into the exhaust without the need for a bung welded just to do WOT tuning for others that don't have a bung welded for a permanent install.

So there you have it.

I went into my BE transfer, which was 10 = 0 and 20 = 5 and noticed that it was off a bit, so I set 9.7 = 0 and 19.7 = 5 and it was dead on with the gauge.

If you are using CalCon, you will find the transfer file in your STRK directory under "Program Files".

Just eyeballing the laptop vs the gauge, the two differed slightly -- probably because of a voltage drop between where I grounded the meter (behind the console) and the PCM (in the kickpanel).

When the gauge is turned on and was warming up, it would put out a steady gauge reading and voltage - I saw the difference and got the two to match.

This is really the only area that I *really* like my LC-1 - you can have it output a steady voltage and then measure that voltage by the time it hits the PCM to get the transfer EXACTLY dead on. Adjusting the PLX like this got it close enough for comfort though - I wouldn't hesitate to run it like this on my supercharged car.
