My buddy was involved in a hit and run in a parking lot. He had a Saleen front bumper on his GT and it got some scuffs and about a 8 inch crack in it. Can cracks be repaired in polyurethane bumpers or do you just have to buy a new one?
You can repair it, but no shop will do it. When I got rear ended every shop just wanted to replace the bumper. It can be fixed- plastic welding has come a long way in the past couple years.
If its not very big gouge or crack you can use fiberglass. I repaired a nasty
4" gouge in the rear bumper of my 99. I have had some practice although as I
was a boat repairman for Chrysler boats for a while. Fiberglass resin....
it could be repaired if ur doing it urself but be prepared for it to take some time. thats why shops just replace them, time is money and by the time u pay the repair price on the old bumper u could have bought one. do not use fiberglass on it as fiberglass is stiff and the bumper is flexible. plastic welding is an option, however they make a lot of bumper epoxies now that will do the trick as well.
3M makes an excellent 2 part bumper repair. I use the hell out of it. It is great for cracks, splits, filling license plate holes etc. I even used it where a rear cover fragged along a cement wall and put holes all the way through it. I have never had this stuff come apart on me. I highly recommend that stuff.
