I have a 66 with standard interior door panels and i'd like to know if there is any way I could mount pony door handles to the non pony panels. I'd like to match my wood grain steering wheel.

Sure-if you use them without the escutcheons, they will fit. I have done this. If you use the escutcheons, you'll need the extended shafts, of course.

Would it look funny without the escutcheon? Does it leave a gap in between the handle and door panel or anything?

If the holes in the door panels are large, they might show.

any chance you have a picture of the install? I've never seen the pony handles in person and wonder if it will look cool or not.
