The Mustang Round-Up is less than a month away now and that means Pony Trails is coming up. For those that may not know, Pony Trails is a large-scale cruise held this year on Friday the 13th
that will run from the Seattle area, across Puget Sound, to the Shelton drag strip. There, you will be able to run your car on the quarter mile track at a cost of $20 for as many runs as you can get in. For more information about Pony Trails and the Round-Up, click here.
The route to Shelton has been set up to include taking the Edmonds/Kingston ferry. As a 7-year Pony Trails participant, an Edmonds resident and frequent ferry traveller I see a few issues here. This event has drawn up to 425 cars, though usually between 200 and 300. The ferries used on the Edmonds/Kingston run hold 155 cars. Allowing for other Friday travellers and the way Mustangs Northwest organizes the start, I can see the group being split up over as many as four sailings.
My plan is to have anyone that is interested meet up for a leisurely breakfast in Edmonds at 8:00, then head down and catch the 9:20 ferry out of Edmonds. The schedule for Trails says that they will be leaving the two starting points (Bellevue and north Seattle) starting at 9:00. They send the cars out in groups of 10 and the first groups of cars will more than likely be on the 10:10 sailing. This way, our group will have time to assemble on the other side, gas up if needed, get snacks and drinks, and pick up the first group as it rolls out of Kingston. This will also allow us to be among the first to the drag strip and get more for our twenty bucks.
For breakfast, my suggestion is Barlee's Restaurant. It is located at 7929 Lake Ballinger Way, in the "Y" where Edmonds Way splits off of 205th. Here is a map of the location. I'm going to plan on being there around 8:00. It doesn't matter when you show, but plan to leave there at 9:00 so we can catch the 9:20.
Those who have expressed an interest in this in the past:
bill89saleen304
99gtTony
Shadowfist
Grover
and at least two non-Stangnet Mustang friends of mine.
If you're planning on participating in this, please confirm in this thread. If this gets a lot of interest, I should probably let Barlee's know we're coming.
See you there.
