The Mustang Round-Up is less than a month away now and that means Pony Trails is coming up. For those that may not know, Pony Trails is a large-scale cruise held this year on Friday the 13th  that will run from the Seattle area, across Puget Sound, to the Shelton drag strip. There, you will be able to run your car on the quarter mile track at a cost of $20 for as many runs as you can get in. For more information about Pony Trails and the Round-Up, click here.

The route to Shelton has been set up to include taking the Edmonds/Kingston ferry. As a 7-year Pony Trails participant, an Edmonds resident and frequent ferry traveller I see a few issues here. This event has drawn up to 425 cars, though usually between 200 and 300. The ferries used on the Edmonds/Kingston run hold 155 cars. Allowing for other Friday travellers and the way Mustangs Northwest organizes the start, I can see the group being split up over as many as four sailings.

My plan is to have anyone that is interested meet up for a leisurely breakfast in Edmonds at 8:00, then head down and catch the 9:20 ferry out of Edmonds. The schedule for Trails says that they will be leaving the two starting points (Bellevue and north Seattle) starting at 9:00. They send the cars out in groups of 10 and the first groups of cars will more than likely be on the 10:10 sailing. This way, our group will have time to assemble on the other side, gas up if needed, get snacks and drinks, and pick up the first group as it rolls out of Kingston. This will also allow us to be among the first to the drag strip and get more for our twenty bucks.:D

For breakfast, my suggestion is Barlee's Restaurant. It is located at 7929 Lake Ballinger Way, in the "Y" where Edmonds Way splits off of 205th. Here is a map of the location. I'm going to plan on being there around 8:00. It doesn't matter when you show, but plan to leave there at 9:00 so we can catch the 9:20.

Those who have expressed an interest in this in the past:

bill89saleen304
99gtTony
Shadowfist
Grover

and at least two non-Stangnet Mustang friends of mine.

If you're planning on participating in this, please confirm in this thread. If this gets a lot of interest, I should probably let Barlee's know we're coming.

See you there.

I've got the day off just for this but I'm still not confident on lowered cars getting on the ferry. If it does it just looks like a huge bottle neck and a pain. I want to go but it just doesnt sound all that fun till you get to the destination.
I'll probably go anyway and see for myself. Hope I'm not let down.

The route is a very nice drive that I've been on many times on our way to the beach. There is NO problem with a lowered car getting on the ferry in Edmonds. My wife's car is lowered two inches and does just fine, as does a friends 04 Mystichrome that is even lower. If you've ever seen his car with the MRCHROME plate, he travels with us a lot and has never had a problem getting on a boat.

That said, if I lived in Lacey, I'd just meet everyone at Shelton.

I'm still game for the early meet and breakfast. I'm looking forward to the cruise. I'm sure it will be fun as always. Last year's was way too short, especially with the spirited blasts in some of the straights. Unless your car sits on the ground you won't have any issues with the ferry. Just take it slow on/off.

hey everyone so this is my first pony trail and i live down in vancouver, Wa where would be the best place for me to meet up that day since i have a 2+ drive up there?

The official starting points are at Bellevue Community College and North Seattle Community College. Click on the link in my first post for more info.

I am interested I live right up the hill from the ferry so going somewhere else just to drive back to where I started is just not a good idea to me. I keep a watch on this thread and see what develops.

Some of us that live South [Tacoma,Puyallup,Lacy, Olympia, etc.] will be taking the I-5 to 101 Shelton route. Shelton is a 30 minute drive from Tacoma that way. If you would like to hook up with us let me know. My cell is 253-961-0335 :nice: I think the ferry will be a cluster f---. with that many cars.

Just take the next exit past 220th (where you exit to come to my house) and head west towards Edmonds. Stay in the left lane and when the road "Y's" take the left fork. Barlee's will be right in front of you.

There was a LOT of interest in our prefunk at the show at Mill Creek today. It looks like we may have upwards of twenty cars showing up for breakfast, so we're going to need a little more time to get our cars ticketed and into the ferry holding lanes. I'm going to recommend showing up 7:30ish so we can head down to the loading area about 8:30.
