I've posted this on our local mustang boards to get opinions but thought i might get a quicker response here..

Last nite when I got about a half mile from home my car started making this horible poping noise from the engine bay. I had no clue what it was at the time, but after listening to it before leaving it at home to go to work, it sounds like compression bursting past one of the plugs. I'm not for sure as of yet but dad confirmed that that was what it sounded like.. so i'm going to check it this afternoon.

These plugs have been in well over a month (almost two) so i'm not sure what would have caused it to do that all of a sudden. I didn't race it at all last nite or run it hard... haven't really run it hard since the Tail of the Dragon, June 3rd... Any ideas what would all of a sudden cause that?

Originally I thought it was an exhaust leak but its much too loud for that... and it pops louder and faster the more gas i give it...

Interesting, I have the exact same problem. I took it to a mechanic friend of mine and let him listen, he gave me some scary things of what it could of been at first, then he said, you know what, try spraying some armoral on the belt and see if it goes away. So I did, and the noise went away. So I went and got a new belt and I'm waiting to have it put on. Don't know if thats your problem or not, but I'm pretty sure its mine.

your popcorn induction system is bad...try changing out the butter at regular intervals.

actually it does seem like a compression issue
