Popping Noise!!

I was driving on the highway this afternoon when I gave it like 3/4 throttle or more, but not WOT when I heard a popping noise come from under the hood. I am 99% sure it was under the hood and not from my exhaust. Any ideas what that might be or what could cause that?

Reproducible? Have you heard pinging before, how does this sound compare?

Yeah I have heard pinging before and it did not sound anything like that. Sounded like backfire but coming from under the hood somewhere.

How does the car run otherwise? How many miles on the engine. You could have a problem with the camshaft, worn lobes. It could still run ok under normal cruise.

Hesitation and bucking after any more than 1/2 throttle. It has a little over 64, 000 miles on it.
