Popping on acceleration

On acceleration my car makes popping sounds in the exhaust and losses power but once im cruising it doesnt pop and its fine. Doesnt do it in idle either. It started about 4 weeks after i installed a catback, think it is an exhaust leak? I dont hear any ticking.. can exhaust leaks cause this problem? Or perhaps its my MAF going bad?

I have cleaned my MAF multiple times by the way

an exhaust leak could cause it but if it was that far back I don't think it would be the cause. if it was leaking before the 0xygen sensors it could cause this. do a tune up and go from there. check/replace cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, and what ever else i'm forgetting.

ok i drove it some more its not really popping but maybe hesistation is a better word, its not pinging im sure i know what pinging sounds like. It jerks a bit when accelerating...

fuel filter is new, air filter is a K&N which i have cleaned, MAF is cleaned regularly, plugs are only a few months old ( less than 5k miles on them), plug wires i will check and prolly replace, will see about cap and rotor, what is the rotor btw i never messed with the distributer

you can get the msd cap and rotor for $25 might as well since you dont know how old the ones on there are. also maybe some new plugs and wires. if that doesn't fix the problem then go from there.

the popping noise on acceleration is caused by unburned fuel entering the exhaust system and igniting there. is your check engine light on and have you attempted to pull codes it could be a bad sensor or injector ect....

ok its raining this weekend...im probably going to do cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires next weekend

by the way, i unplugged MAF sensor, and it didnt hesitate or pop like normal, it still did it, but much much much less....what do you guys think? i hadnt done through testing with the MAF unplugged tho cause it runs like ass from a stand still, and made ALOT of gas fumes, probably fouled my plugs...oh well ill do a full tune up and report back
