Asshatery is what I do best. Thats my purpose for being here. Once in a while someone needs to step in an stop you guys from pulling each other puds over aero swaps long enough to keep you from chaffing.

So let me get this straight.. basically YOUR saying that he is "gay" because what, he is changing the busted ugly nose of an 81 mustang to an aero... mmkkay, but others are saying its ok if he swapped to an 85-86 nose.. honestly, its the same thing.. and judging by that yellow 2.3 you posted, that would make you gay too, since you know, you made visual enhancements to it? (hood pins? clear headlight deals? 2.3 badging? )

im not saying its wrong for you to have done that...

You are correct. He'll be the dude with the mismatched door molding, and nonstop[ wiring problem who can't figure out why all the people at the car shows are not digging his "sweet ride!"

I was looking at a car like this at a carshow. It had capri flares, a capri VIN, and a mustang front end. Dude said, "looks nice huh?" I don't know if he was the owner or not, but I replied, "Nope, looks like a redneck hack job on a once nice capri." He had no response.

The reason why posts such as this one always come up at stangnet, is because stangnet has a reputation for being full of the immature high school kids.

It's no doubt that threads such as this one pop up often, because you're not capable of understanding the societal norms and taboos that exist within our circle (mustang people).

In case you didn't notice, you can't quite compare a 32 ford to say an 88 mustang. Two completely different generations, two completely different cars. It is commonly accepted practice to chop, cut, and modify old cars into hot rods. However, in the world of mustangs, most often doing this is considered cheesy. How often does someone come onto any mustang message board with wings, scoops, clear tail lights, and skirts, only to be laughed at and called rice?? The Mustang crowd in it's majority does NOT approve of body mods, beyond VERY simple and tasteful ones. (a special edition wing on a vert for example). Ford gave us an awesome platform to begin with. For this reason the late model mustang crowd tends to concentrate on modfications in the HP range, where anything goes...4 banger, v8, or mod motor into a fox.

Like it or not, body mods such as swapping front ends is just plain old taboo within our crowd.

When I first bought my 86 eleven years ago, I wanted to be part of the "me too" crowd as well. I happened upon my 86 as a mistake, and thought it was outdated. I did have plans to "upgrade" the front end, lol. However, within a very short amount of time, I realized the attention my "older" fox got...and every time I'd beat an aero fox I'd be proud, only because they likely thought I just had an old 4 eye.

I've had just about any fox you could imagine, an 89 notch, 87 gt, a 91 vert, a couple of 93 notches, my 86 vert, an 88 notch, an 82 notch, an 84 notch, an 83 5.0 ttop coupe, an 88 chp notch, an 86 gt hatch, and likely a few others that I've forgotten.

I rebuild t5's in my garage, I've swapped interiors countless times, I've done 4 to 8 swaps, efi conversions, 5 lug upgrades, aod to t5 conversions, and just about everything you can imagine.

However, in all my time, I've never once done an aero swap, nor has any of my friends. When I wanted an aero, I'd buy one, and that's that.

My entire point to this long drawn out story, is that I'm not a fanatical lunatic, as you may imagine. I'm just a normal 33 year old guy with a couple of kids, a couple of mustangs (bronco, and maverick too), and an open mind.

If you search back on stangnet, you'll find that every post about an aero swap winds up in pages of arguements. Take that for a hint. It happens everywhere, every site. Go ahead and change the front end over. 99% of the time, no one will say anything, and I'm sure that's fine for you. However, that other 1% will be at the car shows, or amongst enthusiasts, and they're not going to give it to you easy.

Like it or not, that's just the expectations and norms amongst our mustang crowd.

But thats the beauty...You dont have to like it. Nor does anyone else that has negatively contributed to this thread. Its great that you wont want to swap one, chances are I wouldnt either. However I wouldnt do it because I dont like the style, so I'd rather buy it done. I'm no good at body work. Not because I place a sentiment on a car that doesnt belong to me. But thats neither here nor there.

Being that he bought the car, he has the parts, and hes working with a great foundation, to him it makes sense, and thats all that matters. Perhaps its a perspective that you didnt consider but when you come in with guns blazing knockin **** left right and center...well..it makes you look like a complete ass.

Im sorry, but that car is ugly. Thats great that he has a jillion horsepower, but ya know what? someone out there is always going to be faster.

Im not going to get in some long drawn out explination on this, but i see 3 sides to this.

The people that are happy that he is saving a mustang (regardless of year) from the crusher, and turning it into a nice ride.

On the other hand you have your purists who dont want him to take the front clip off at all, but if he does, just change it to a different 4 eye front end.

Then you have the extremists that think that if it doesnt have the ugly grille it came with from the factory, it would be better to destroy the whole car?

If i was the one that started this project, and this thread, id expect a little back and forth about MY choices, on a car that I bought, and IM working on, but someone telling me that i might as well crush the car because its not exactly how it came from the factory?

you guys keep saying if he wants an aero, go out and buy one. what you guys keep forgetting is, HE PULLED THIS CAR FROM HIS FAMILY OWNED SALVAGE YARD. it's not like he went car shopping with intentions on buying a 4 eye to do an aero conversion on. also, i don't see anyone giving the guy on here crap that has the black t-top coupe with the aero conversion. all i ever hear are compliments on his car. lay off, get lives, and watch the progress of this rebuild.
