Porterfield R4-S vs Autozone Ceramic Lifetime Warranty Brakes

So i have been reading threads all over the net and need to start my own.

I need Pads and like to brake Hard. I was looking at Hawk But People say they dust hardcore.

After Looking for new brake pads i discovered Auto Zone Sells Ceramic Brake Pads with Lifetime Warranty.

....But then i am getting pulled into the world of Porterfield.

I called Porterfield (30 mins from my House) and talked to them about there street pad, The R4-S.

Is the Extra cost of the Porterfields worth it for the performance? Will i notice that much of a difference over ceramic?

Should is spend $120 on Brake pads once or spend $50 and beat of the pads and get new ones for free?

Help me out guys

I know several people that are unhappy with the dust levels and noise levels of their Hawk pads.

Have you checked out EBC? They have some nice products and the prices aren't bad. I'm running their "Green" pads and they work well. Add a little heat to them and you notice them gripping harder. They survived two and a half laps around a short oval track braking really hard from 70-80mph before they overheated, but they never really had a chance to cool down.

I think the "Red" pads are the next step up, more towards a very agressive street pad and a blend of race pad.

They dust less than others, and what dust does come off is SUPER easy to wipe off (as in just a finger will take the tickest of it off), it doesn't stick to the wheels.

Autozone has changed the way they do business and its a load of crap. They no longer will replace the pads for free from wearing out. The only way you get free replacements of their pads anymore is a factory defect or failure.

You can check with your local AZ but i know around me they have "changed" their policy.

lame my autozone just exchanged mine not to long ago ? if they do in ur area id go with the autozone brand

I have worked for autozone and currently know people who do. The autozone policy should be the same from state to state. If you buy the autozone pads they will replace them when they are worn. I have the DL gold from them and they work great IMO.

I have the new Duralast Gold C-Max Ceramics from Autozone and they seem to work great. I put them on when I bought drilled and slotted rotors. It seems like a pretty good combo.

Autozone pads suck. My Mark VIII has the higher end Autozone pads and while they are low dust their friction sucks and managed to only heat blister my rotors So I have new x-drilled rotors and EBC pads on the way.

My 96 Cobra had EBC green pads and they rocked! Never had any fade or excessive dust and they were great street pads.
My Termi has the EBC red pads and they work fine cold but work really well when warm. The dust is about the same as the green pads (which is very low). The only down side is they are a little noisy when cold and wet. But as soon as they dry off they are quiet again

That link was for 02 GT rotors
I paid ALOT less though when I got them a year or so ago. I think my fronts were $60 and the rears were $45
Now I dont even see the green ones for the Cobra...... makes me wonder if I ordered red ones for that car as well

Ha ok i didn't see that the first time i looked at it. What i meant though was i'll remember the site. I've always seen ads for those in mags but never knew of anyone that ran them. Good to know they are a good pad.

Summit is where I got my EBC's and they were here in two days.

FWIW they will be my next set of pads also. Not switching.

Yea i never really researched brake pads, i always just went with the autozone special I'll most definately be getting those EBS's. Thanks for all the links.

Yeah, that site is free shipping.
And it was Late Model Resto where I got the green stuff pads for the Cobra application. I was gonna go to the other place but they didnt have Cobra/Mach1 pads in the green compund.
They are only $77 at LMR
