possible to change oil pan gasket with motor in?

My oil pan gasket has stepped out a bit right under the dipstick and I was wondering if anybody has ever changed one with the motor still in the car? It looks like it would be really tough and I don't think it's possible but??????

Its possible if you drop the k-member, or the tranny, other than that... good luck!

Yeah, I've done it a couple of times. I have a tubular k-member (helps), a 7 quart Moroso pan (doesn't help), and a scattershield (doesn't help). You should be able to do it with a stock pan and k-member. You'll have to pull the steering rack loose from the k-member and steering shaft.

If you need more room, disconnect the motor mounts from the k-member and jack up the motor. Use a block of wood on your jack so you don't damage anything. You can jack under the balancer or the bellhousing/tranny.

nah i beleive you can still drop it enough with the k-member still on if you got the motor jacked up and the fan/shroud gone.

it can be done, but like said above it's a bitch.
take your mid pipe off, and i think the drive shaft too. motor mounts and jack the motor up. and i hope your planning on useing a lift.

What the hell are you all talking about? I've done a bazillion of these. It's as easy and taking the bolts off the motor mounts in the k member and jacking the motor with a block or wood on the balancer. This will give you plenty of room. I have done an oil pump with the motor in the car. Now that was a bitch, but a pan gasket isn't what you all make it out to be.

It's possible to do it with out lifting the motor or droping the k. I did on mine and it was a pain. Took 3 hours but I got it. It would have been a ton easier if I just jacked up the motor. I unbolted the pan and it droped about an inch, that was enough room.

who takes the driveshaft off?? and why? disconnect the headers/exhaust, remove rad/shroud, unbolt motor mounts and lift up.

You don't need to disconnect anything other then the motor mounts and fan shroud if needed. Jack up the motor until the bellhousing hits the firewall and that's as far as you can go. Not that hard.
