ever since i have gotten my car, 2nd gear has been kinda notchy. now 1st gear is getting to be like this. doesnt go into gear as smoothly. 3,4 and 5 are fine. is this just the way these things break in, or should i tell the dealer and see if they will swap it out or something like that? i have about 7000 miles on it. also, should i remove the tri-ax before bringing it in, or will they probably not notice it?

if there is a problem going into gear, i would definately take the tri-ax out. they will look in the car, see that, then stamp "unable to reproduce symptoms" on the work order, never giving it a 2nd look. i daont think o have problems with my shifter, but maybe i have gotten used to it in the last 10,000 miles.

here is the thing. my friend is the service manager at the ford store i am going to take it to. if they do have to replace the trans, how does it work? the mechanic takes it out and says ok this needs to be replaced. so what does a ford rep then come and look at the car? or does it just go by what the mechanic/service manager says?

ask your buddy for sure, but everything i have seen as far as a major warrany issue (i.e. replacing trans) goes through the regional rep.

try calling a salvage yard. they could locate one for you MAYBE. i have seen some people on ebay parting out 05s already. try there too. dont forget to look at completed listings. find the sellers and email them your request. if no luck, i am sure SOMEONE has a stock shifter laying around....
