It has been a long time since I have been on here. Purchased my 2005 Mustang GT brand new. Have some some customizing.

Is it me or is Joe Fan's Red candy look much better than Fastredpony's car?
One is real life photos and other is Joan rivers fake. Just don't see the point of photoshop your car to death. Look so fake.

Not photoshop. HDR. It's not for everyone. I just find unprocessed pictures bland.

This is totally unprocessed/untouched.

Are you sure that is 100% from your camera? You didn't touch it up at all? Look at the picture above your. That's how red candy look in person. Your photo looks like you turn up the hue/brightness/hdr...etc. Maybe you are a Professional photographer, in that case i am sorry. Red candy looks very nice as it, no need to apply tricks. I just don't want people to order Red candy thinking that's how it looks. It looks darker and duller than your photos in person.

100% untouched. I always shoot in RAW format so that the camera's image processor doesn't render the image. (this always results in a less than ideal end result)

I used a Canon T2i and a Sigma 8-16mm lens and converted the RAW image file to JPEG using Adobe Lightroom 3's default settings (I.E. no touch up, color correction or enhancements)

Candy red is very dependant on the angle, quantity and type of light hitting it though. I shot that under what I consider to be ideal lighting. Mid~Late afternoon direct sunlight.

It was also immediately after polishing and waxing so the color and shine are at it's best.

Anyways, I'm not trying to trick anyone but my own personal preference is to make as good looking of a shot as possible and as mentioned, HDR rendering is certainly not for everyone.

I imagine that if I took the same shot of my car using my small point and shoot Lumix ZS7 camera it would look much more like Joe or Tooquick's pictures.

Sorry if it sounds like i am picking on you. I love Red Candy. Would have been my first choice if not for the $395. I am already over budget at 38k. I guess i need to take some lessons on taking photos cuz your photo skill is way wayyyyyy better. Good job.

Well, I'm fortunate to have a few friends who shoot cars professionally and have picked up on their tips and tricks from hanging out with them at shoots.

There's no real single thing that makes or breaks a good shot. It's a lot of little things that have to add up and it seems that every different car calls for a slightly different approach regarding the lines of the car and angles to shoot at and where the ideal angle of light should hit certain lines or panels of the car, etc..

Some cars have specific angles that they look good at and some that they don't. On top of that certain lenses can accentuate certain lines of a car that can give a unique and cool perspective to make the shot look unique.

Ultimately though, the picture quality can only be as good as the raw file itself but an entry level SLR with a basic kit lens can easily capture a pro quality shot if the lighting is good and car has been properly prepped. Then again, I've seen shots from $200 point and shoot cameras that look better than amateur SLR shots of the same car.
