I came across the following pictures from a local car show a few years ago. Since my 2004 Mustang GT does not qualify as a classic, I figured the best I could do is share these pictures. At least until I'm fortunate to have my own 1969-70 fastback, red or black, V8 4 speed manual.

the usual bolt-ons: edelbrock heads, rpm intake, e-cam, disc brakes, 5 speed, F.I., smog delete, tweecer, dropped a-arms, quick ratio steering box/idler-arm/pitman-arm, watts link, subframe connectors etc.

Haha, I used to have those wheels on mine. I always loved them. They get a lot of attention.

hi folks!!
I am new. I am Giancarlo from Italy. The car belongs to me and my brother.
Our ride is a 71 Mach1 351C M code, matching numbers, C6 tranny
Export model for swiss market, Speedometer in Km/h. 3rd owner (second was a dealer that kept it for few months), bought in 2006
About 60K original Kilometers (less than 40K miles)
working RAM AIR, electric windows, magnum 500 wheels, folding rear seat and trunk trap door, rear defroster. Pretty much untouched interiors and wiring.
We did few upgrades to the car, trying not to modify the original look too much: Edelbrock Performer 1400 carb, electric fuel pump, Pertronix ignition and coil, new alternator and it's harness, new complete correct exhaust, new gas tank (old one rusted), front and rear spoilers.
Right now I an dealing with a few electrical problems (almost solved). the car runs fine.. just needs fine tuning.

Hope you like it:

I didn't use to like the early 70's stangs because of the stigma of lessened performance and so forth, but I think if you stroke the 351 and use a 4 barrel carb, those engines can produce anywhere from 400-500 horsepower.

I also didn't like the looks, but it's an acquired taste, and I like the 71-73 fastbacks/Mach 1s.

There's a 73 CobraJet Fastback in Texas that I would love to fix up. It is absolutely gutted inside, so I'd be awesome to just strip it out of everything and install new upholstery, manual windows, six speed manual transmission. Tune the 351 to produce maybe 400 hp, put in new suspension and a chassis tune and that would be my ideal "rez" car--not so much restored but brought back to life.

Anyway v-twins, your post inspired, very nice Mach 1

Well I dont have a classic 'stang myself (rather an 88 5.0 convert) but all these pics made me want to contribute something. Heres a pic of my Dad's 70 Boss 302 (yes, thats still the window sticker in the window) ;-)
He also owns an 03 Cobra (with 8 original miles on it) and an 07 Shelby GT500 (with 5 original miles on it).

Man is that 70 Mach 1 awesome!

I would put a few miles on the 03 Cobra. They are meant to be driven.

Its actually a Boss 302, not a Mach 1

I agree about driving the Cobra - and the 07 Shelby but he likes the idea of having the lowest mile 03 and 07 in existence lol. He said hed probably sell the Cobra but he wants to get what he paid for it, and thats unlikely until its a classic lol

I hate to break it to your dad, but the Cobra won't become classic for 20 more years--at earliest.

exactly. my daily beater is a 400hp 2005 GTO and only maybe 12K were imported that year (40K in 3 years total) so it's easily as rare as a cobra and i drive it like i stole it* and use it as a grocery getter and pick-up truck. enjoy your cars so your kids will only inherit a rusted, dented clunker because they deserve to have to do the restoration work.

*of course i have an immaculate 20 year driving record, so me "driving it like i stole it" is kind of subjective.

Here is my 70. I am debating since it is a clone, not original Mach, to turn it into a restomod.

I don't think I would change that one much. It looks good the way it is.
