I have a 98 mustang cobra.

Recently, the Power Door LOCK has stopped working. From the key fob, from the driver and passenger side doors.

UNLOCK works fine from all sources.

I can still lock the door with the key or manual door lock post on the top of the door. Just not with anything electical.

I've hooked my voltmeter into the switch harness. It appears to be a 3wire PDL system. Both the pink/green wire reads 11.74v at rest and 0 when I press lock. The pink/yellow wire reads 11.74v at rest and like 0 when I press lock.

Futhermore, I can ear some relay in the trunk click when I press the "lock" button on the doors or key fob.

What's going on?

PLEASE HELP!

Door lock actuators are shot, real common on the cars.

My 97 GT are shot also, like $65-$80 ea !

With Remote Keyless entry, the switches do not operate the lock/unlock actuators directly. The switches provide trigger signals to the RKE module (located somewhere in the trunk area on a '98), which in turn powers the actuators. That click you hear is probably a relay in the RKE module, and should help you find it.

I would first check that the module connectors are tight, with no corrosion, then try a replacement module from a wrecking yard.

It could be that the relay inside the RKE module has carbon built up on its' contacts preventing an electrical connection from the Normally Open to Common terminals. This is actually fairly easy to fix, but is quite difficult to explain.

I agree with damacman but didn't know if NorCalJason would be willing to take the module apart to clean relay contacts or resolder a broken wire.

Does the module have to be programmed?

I have a 03 cobra too, I'm wondering if I can just swap them.

It's not the switch. I've checked.

I believe if you get a complete new RKE module, the remotes will have to be reprogrammed. If that wasn't true, your remote would unlock someone eles's car.

*update*

For those who are having similar problems to mine, I figured it out this weekend.

My Remote Keyless Entry Module was bad.

It's located behind the anti-theft controle module and braket, against the interior body panel.

Replaced it, and everything is working great now.

Where did you get a new RKE module and how much was it? Mine is broken and needs to be replaced.

Hmm...well just noticed this thread at a year old but maybe someone can still help. Thanks.

Found mine on Ebay for ~30 bucks.

They're expensive if you get them from a dealer.

Junk yards will also have them.

Good luck!

Thanks for reporting back. I guarantee carbon build up on one of the relay contacts within the RKE was the cause of your problem. This can be fixed, but for $30, you did well . . .
