Ok so my power locks aren't working. Power is going to the switch and the power lock.. Me & my dad checked that and looked at the wiring diagram (need a ****ing telescope to read the wiring diagram in my manual)... What we think is there used to be an alarm system in the car (aftermarket) and when it was removed the power locks was disconnected somewhere under the dash and I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what color & where the wiring would be located for me to check I dont wanna just rip **** apart looking for nothing. The car is a 1993 Mustang LX. Thanks in advance.

Might need new acutators, you can get replacements quite cheap these days easy install. 50resto has install instructions on site.

Small plunger located in the bottom inside of door at the rear of door, will have to remove door panel and check switch if you have +12v and -12v when pushing button then you have a good switch and power too it...then you can look at replacing the actuators..search on here and you will find a good cheap replacement piece and install tips on here...I bought 4 actuators (2 extra) shipped for 25$ from parts express and just had some very slight modifying to do to make them work. All said and done begining to end..2 hours and finished. search using key words "theory on lock actuators" or "theory on door locks" and you'll find the post with all the info you need.

If the actuator is what I think it is my dad checked that with his voltage meter and there was the correct voltage going into it when you pushed the lock / unlock switch. My dad is very mechically enclined and I'm not as much so I don't remember exactly what he did / looked at but he said he thought it was cause of the alarm system.. But now that I think about it if the voltage is going to it and its reading that its going to it but its not locking the door then maybe that is what it is.

They love to go bad all the time and are a pain to take apart the door, but I love having power locks so I took the time and think the research and time are worth every penny.

Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?

A new actuator for less than $4. Fix one side for $17, do both sides for only $23. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.

part of the problem is that you are using a telescope instead of a microscope to read the schematics. J/K.

installers will often get the lock wiring in the driver kick panel - near the top of the panel are where the connectors are (i dont recall specific colors, but the primary color is pink in more than one of them, IIRC).

i would look there for cut wires. solder them back together.

if you need actuators, i have done Jrichker's retrofit and it works very nicely. i recommend it.

I talked to my dad he said he hooked up the actuators in the car to power elsewhere and they did work so that isn't the problem. I still ordered new ones because as far as I know those actuators are the ones that came in it in 1993 and could go at any time so I'll replace them with new ones. But since the actuators do work and that's not the problem there's got to be a ground wire cut or something like that inside the dash. It looks the pink wire with a black stripe is the hot wire so i'm gonna have to look under the dash and see if its cut somewhere. Thanks. Btw, its both doors not just one so that's why my dad thinks its prolly a wire cut somewhere, can't imagine both going at the same time.
