In my opinion the factory power steering is horrible. I don't have any experience with the rack and pinion setups, other than they are really expensive. Look into a Borgeson integrated power steering box. Sweet modern setup that bolts right up. I built a DIY junkyard version that was around 200 dollars and works great! Yeah, the hoses will interfere with the factory zbar from what I hear. I run the cable set up for my clutch. I used the stock mustang pump and it works just fine. If you get the box from Borgeson, you can build your own hoses for a LOT cheaper than they sell them. Find a used stock pump that will bolt right up and you should be good to go. Good Luck.
