Power Steering Leak

I have beat the piss out of the search engines looking for some solutions.

Here is what I'm dealing with. 95 Cobra, the fitting that goes into the power steering pump is fine. It is the fitting on the hose that goes into the this fitting that is leaking. Now I know there are 2 possible places for this fitting to leak. It can leak around the threads of the fitting and a simple teflon seal prevents that (and it's doesn't leak there). Or it can leak around the the tube that runs through the fitting. This is where the leak is. I can't find any information about what is used to seal that hose to the fitting.

I'm curious what any of you have done to deal with this problem.

I was just thinking and I might have a simple fix. I replaced my rack with a used one (I had a manual rack in it) and the rack came with the hoses. I also had the old hoses that I removed from the car when I installed the manual rack. I used the high pressure line that looked like it was in the best condition. Is there a possibility that the fitting on the line is the wrong one? I tossed the other line. I'm trying to avoid replacing the line but I will if absolutely necessary.

Is this the return metal line?

Mine was leaking from that tube as well, It just gets old and wiggles and the fuuid will leak around the actual fitting, There is no way around this.

You just have to get another one. I got mine from wrecking yard. from newer mustang, If you go to the dealer they will want too much money.

It's not an expensive hose at the parts store.

Yeah, last I checked it was like $35 from the part store. I never fixed mine (same issue) because getting to the line at the PS rack looks like a nightmare. I just find ways to soak up the fluid. That's what diapers and shop towels are for.

The teflon seal is the only thing that seals that fitting to the pump. If you're getting a leak between the fitting and the tube, you'll have to replace the entire part.

Are you sure that's where the leak is? You are not supposed to re-use the teflon seal under any circumstances. I tried and it leaked no matter what I did. Got a new seal from Ford, and no more leak.

The teflon washer between the PS pump and high pressure line is 388898-S. I got it for about $2. The seal seal for the high pressure hose to the rack is 388897-S, and cost me about the same. The seals/washers are used for many Ford makes and models; the guy at the parts counter knew exactly what I was talking about and got me both washers really fast.

You'll need to get a teflon spreader tool to get the washers over the threads, but I had a tool handle that worked just as well.
