Power steering ok to run without pump??????

I have bent my p/s pulley in taking it off, still isn't off too. Is it ok to drive around without the pump hooked up. Wasn't sure if this would hurt the steering rack or something. Will it hurt anything?

It won't hurt anything but it will be difficult to steer because you have to push the fluid throught the system manually, not just push the wheels side to side manually. Also that fluid is probally going to end up overflowing out of the resivour. You'll probally also get air in the lines which isn't a big deal but just thought I would throw that in there anyways.

The pump wont be on the car, for maybe a week at most. Unless NAPA has a P/S pulley which i will check tomarrow.

NAPA has a p/s pulley for a 1990 bronco with a 5.0L, is this the same powersteering pump as the mustang? will it fit?

I've heard differently - that the fox mustang uses power-assist steering, not power-steering and that you can run it without fluid at all, just plug it up.

id assume it would fit so long as its the 6rib pulley. the diameter cant be that much of a diff if there even is one.

Yes, you can do it. In fact, the very cool 5.0 Mustang-based Factory Five Cobra kit car uses a stock 15-1 Mustang steering rack without the pump.
