My buddy and I are pulling the motor in his car and we can't figure out how to get the damn power steering pump off(we're taking off all of the accessories, except, maybe, the waterpump). Everything besides the lower hose is unbolted, but we still can't figure it out. Is it the threaded stud at the top left of the pump that's holding it in? How do we get that out? Also, what do we do about the lower AC line running into the car? Any other tips that would ease this process would help, too. Thanks

Also, should we pull the motor and trans out as a unit or drop the trans then pull the motor? We need to do the rear main, but I still think it'd be easier if we pulled everything and then unbolted the trans to do the rear main. Any opinions?

You need a power steering pulley puller. It's like remove your dampner same way. There may be a bolt behind there at least the 94/95 stangs have a bolt back there.

You can remove the bracket and pump together w/o pulling the pulley. If you want to remove the pump itself you'd need to remove the pulley. My bracket has another hole below the one for the stud that a bolt goes thru. The nut on the stud and that bolt is all that holds it on.

Can you rotate the pump bracket on that stud or is it still tight? You might have to pull and rotate at the same time.

if the lower bolt is out just whack the pump with a hammer lightly, it should break loose and swing down.if u dont need the stud just put some vice grips on it and unscrew it from the head and it all should fall in your hands.

We got the PS pump off, dunno how we're gonna get the stud out, though. I'll look into those AC disconnect tools.

You can get those a/c fitting tools at any auto parts store, it's in a kit w/ different sizes, they are for high pressure fuel line fittings as well. I removed that stud with an 8" pipe wrench. It's not that tough.

This is the set I have f/ Autozone

Are you trying to remove the a/c lines that connect to the stub-outs in the firewall?

well, we got the upper off like right at the firewall cuz it just screws off, but the lower one is in some grommet or something. we're completely removing the ac system, so yeah, we want the lines out.
