Power steering rack with no pump?

I was thinking about making my stang have manual steering. If I removed the pump and the lines and plugged the rack and pinion with fluid would that work well?

Would it cause the rack and pinion some damage with no pump?

i think it would be ok,but not sure.drove a 94 gt with no power steering before,no fun.imo,keep the power steering.

thats exactly what i was planning on doing. from what i've read that would be fine.

I would say no....The manual racks are geared different and they respond alot better than a power rack with no pump. I dont recomend that no pump route.

Besides the slightly less response time, are there any other negatives to this option?

it would also be much stiffer than an actual manual rack and since it was not design to really be run without fluid you are putting alot more strain on the gears inside
