power steering to manual question

in process of removing the old power system and need help with removal! how do i get the power steering cylinder (ram) off?? BFH? The cotter pin and nut is removed, as are the lines but I cannot get the ram itself off!! Also - is there any special trick to remove the power steering valve unit from the center link? Or any tips for installing the manual steering adapter piece?

great article on suspension parts removal!! it will work on the steering ram also!

Use a Tie Rod Puller tool to remove the stud of the cylinder from the centerlink without damaging it. If you don't have one, you can often borrow or rent them from an auto parts store.

The Control Valve/Ball Stud assembly screws onto the end of the centerlink. There is a clamp that helps hold the ball stud sleeve to the link. Remove the bolt and nut from the clamp and (using a hammer) push the clamp off of the sleeve. Where the clamp was setting, you will see (if it hasn't been removed or damaged from an earlier attempt) a roll pin in the slot of the sleeve that goes into the link. This is to locate the assembly in relation to the centerlink and also to help prevent it from unscrewing. Remove this roll pin. It is usually easiest to grip the pin on the jaws of of set of wire cutters and lever the pin out. Once you have done this and removed the hoses from the valve, the assembly should unscrew off the end of the centerlink.
