67 coupe with Power Steering.
Problem: When turning the wheel more than about 3/4 turn from center position, the pump starts to squeal. I see the pump pulley start to hang and see the belt squeal. The belt feels tight but I see it flex when the pump starts to hang. Also the pump/control valve/hoses feel hotter than I would have expected even just idling for 10minutes.
Details: I rebuilt the control valve and dissambled/installed new seals in the pump.
Questions:
Tempature- What is too hot? Wondering if I screwed up the valve rebuild causing too much drag in some bypass/pressue relief valve thus heating the fluid?
Squeal- Tighten the belt more or perform other troubleshooting to determine if I screwed up the pump rebuild before it does damage.
What is the proper method to troubleshooting:
-Pressure test the pump?
-Test the control valve by disconnecting one of cylinder hoses from the control valve and looping it back to the other control valve port (if it will fit) this would take the cylinder out of the loop. If squeal goes away then cyl needs rebuild or pump is not putting out enough pressure? If pump/valve still gets hot then check the bypass valve(which one is that?)
