Does anyone know what it takes to change a power window motor on a Fox body? My passenger side window motor died, however I did get the window up to reduce the spring tension on the window regulator. Can I just take the three bolts out of the motor, or do I have to unhook the spring from the regulator somehow? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PLEASE PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK: On my vert, I did not need to mess with bracing the regulator when I popped the motor out. It had 3 small bolts and that was it. But I have done GM window motors where I did need to drill a hole in the regulator arm and frame, and put a bolt and nut through it (to hold the two in the same relative position while I drilled out the motor's rivets). And guess what - the bolts were bent by the time I got done!! That would have been ugly, so that is why I say to assume that the regulator will let go (But I dont think it does on a stang).

Thanks. I changed one on a 93 Cutlass once and almost broke the glass because the spring let loose when I pulled the motor off the regulator.

Are you sure the motor is bad before you get into this? The best way is to pull the whole regulator assembly first. If you pull the door panel off, you can find and disconnect the motor connector and jumper one side to ground and the other to battery voltage to test one direction and reverse them to check the other direction.

I checked and had voltage at the motor and it wasn't working. It was stuck down. I then held the switch up and tapped on the motor with the flat end of a chisel and it slowly went up. I didn't want to try it down again in case it stopped. When it's up, there's less tension on the spring.

Take off the inner door panel. You will then find that it is only held in by the three bolts and the electrical connection. Comes out very easily.

You may get away with just a new set of brushes. I replaced the brushes in the driver's side of my 84 when it died 8 years ago to the tune of $3. It is still working fine to this day.

The RH & LH motor assemblies are the same, only the gearbox is different from one side to the other. You can swap the motors around and make the side that you need.

for easier access remove the speaker. This way you can take the motor out and the new one in.

That car did not come with door speakers from the factory.

No.

There is an opening at the bottom of the door that you take the motor out of, but there is no speaker hole like the aero cars.
