With the 06 GT Vert I just bought came two programmers - a Diablosport Predator and a Hypertech Power Programer III. What the difference in these? Scrolling through the threads I am getting the impression that these are old technology?, but I assume these are still useable? What the best of the two? The car is basically stock - a cold air intake and a Cherry Bomb ( I'm assuming catback ) exhaust.

No one in the mustang community uses hypertech. The Diablo predator is widely used but not as much as the SCT. You need to find out which tuner is locked to the car. If it's the hypertech you should unlock it and then sell it. Contact hypertech and ask how to unlock it. If the diablo is locked to the car, use it. Buy yourself a CAI so you can really benefit. A few companies that will send you email tunes for the diablo are: modular depot High Performance Solutions - Modular Depot - Your source for Modular Performance parts and service Powerhouse racing and Performance Powerhouse Racing and Performance (PHRP) and Eric Brooks from Brooks Speed - Custom Ford, GM, Dodge Tuning

I'm running a C&L CAI. How do I tell, which, if either, tuner is locked to the car now?? By "locked" I assume that if you use the tuner on one car that there's some software in the tuner that prevents you from using it on another vehicle?? Would there be a tune on the Predator that I could use now?? And can I screw anything up if I connect the wrong one?? Thanks

You wont mess anything up if you connect the wrong one. I can almost guarantee that the diablo tune. I am going by memory here but plug it in the obd port and follow the on screen directions. I believe you will select options and then show last tool written or It's tool information then last tune written. This will show what tune is in your car. Being locked does mean that it's locked to that particular car.

I have tried 3 different tuners on my '05 and I saw no real difference between any of them.
there is a lot of hype about this tuner or that but if you have a stock system a CAI and an off the shelf tune is all you need.

I have personally used these three tuners on my car:
-ford procal
-sniper special forces
- predator diabalo

and they are all the same.

Did you try the tunes that came with the tuner (canned tunes) or an email tune? There will not be much if any difference among the different companies canned tunes.

It seems the car was programmed with the Hypertech. I was able to reset to stock with the Hypertech; it didn't recognize the Predator before or after the reset to stock. Doesn't seem like it stored the old tune though, so screwed on sticking it back in. Went through re-programming it with the Hypertech for now ( Predator needs an update and I don't have a serial to USB cable 'til I get to the store ). It gave me two C&L options - a 75mm or 95mm CAI. How do I tell what I have?? Don't think I put the tune back as good as it was, but I'll switch to the Predator as soon as I can get the downloads.

Have you been to the diablo predator website? You can download the updated file from there. Also I am not sure what C&L intake you are running but one of them doesn't need a tune, of course a tune is always better, and the other requires a tune. If you are using the intake that requires a tune, you should take it until you get a tune. If you leave it on your car will run extremely lean and you could do some damage to the engine.

Been to the website. I need a serial to USB cable to get the tune to the tuner. I reset the tune with the Hypertech to account for the C&L CAI, but when I get the update in the Predator, I'll remove the Hypertech tune and put in a Predator one.
