Alpine head w/removable face, installed before I bought the car, not sure how old. Infiniti sub Circuit City installed last summer. Lately sound crackles like static and cuts out over sharp bumps, during acceleration, cornering over bumps. No problem at idle or steady state motion over relatively smooth pavement. Car is lowered and stiffly-sprung. Happens both CD & radio, however CDs dont seem to be skipping. Illumination on faceplate doesnt flicker at all. Have pulled the head from the dash and checked the harness, seems good, stereo operates fine while I twist, tug and shake. Is this a problem with some other wires? Is it a problem with the pin connector between the faceplate and head?

It's probably one of the wires that go through the door. When your stereo's playing, open the door and grip the grommet and move it around a little. If it crackles, then one of the wires is probably scraping against the metal.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give that a try.
I doubt thats the problem, though, as it affects all 6 speakers and the sub, too. I'm thinking its a wiring problem, but maybe somewhere behind the dash, and I was just hoping someone out there had solved this problem before and would be able to tell me exactly what to do!

It's probably a speaker wire thats being grounded. In other words, there is a speaker wire that may have stripped away part of the insulation and is now touching metal. If it's even one wire, it would affect the whole system. Try searching for areas where the wires may have stripped away over time. Hope this helps
