Problems after Tranny Install Please Help

Well I just got my car back from the shop today and I fear there may be some problems. I had a New Ford Flywheel installed along with a King Cobra Clutch, BBK Adjustable Clutch Quadrant Kit, High Alloy T-5 from Astro Performance, Ford Aluminum Drive Shaft, and a Pro 5.0 shifter. All which were brand new parts. Well i went to drive it home and when I put the car in reverse there is a rattling noise that sounds like it is coming from the driveshaft and tranny and it only happens in reverse no other gear, the mechanic said that reverse may not be a synchornized gear which could cause the noise but i dont know. Also when I am driving there is a whining noise and a slight what sounds sorta like a slight grinding noise coming from the shifter and alot of vibration in the shifter. I was wondering if any of this is normal for these parts installed. Any information would be helpful. Also I am just using valvoline tranny fluid for now until tranny is broken in and I will use synthetic. Thanks in advance for any help.

i would check the disengagement of your clutch. I dont know how the vibe feels but that grinding going into reverse mean not enough space between the clutch and the flywheel. and yes reverse isnt sycn. so it will grind . if you do not addres the disengagement issue you will end up with a trash syncs. and possibly more.

good luck

Could the disengagement of the clutch have anything to do with the clutch quadrant being to tight? if not how would that problem be solved. Also when I shift into reverse it doesnt grind when i first shift just when i hit like 4 mph in reverese it starts clickin and grindin a little bit. Thanks again for your help.

that is definitely not normal. there shouldnt be any grinding out of a new tranny unless it is driver error. as far as the whine goes, the aftermarket shifter will cause that because of the lack of insulation that the stock unit has. im not sure what the bbk ckutch quadrant kit comes with but i would definitely look there first. if you have a firewall adjuster i would recommend adjusting it to see if the noise and grinding gets better. good luck and keep us updated.

I have no clue how to help you. But since you have a new tranny, I'll give you a tip. WHILE SITTING STILL (of coarse) ... always shift your tranny into 5th before putting it in reverse. As stated, reverse is not synchronized. It will keep you from ever grinding it. I've seen T-5's that WILL NOT go into reverse without them grinding .... this advice was given to me from my uncle ... a 17 year Ford tech.

I agree with the previous post, though. Start with checking out your quadrant & adjuster.
