I am currently putting my 9 inch together but ran into a problem. when i mesh the gears together the ring gear hits the case right where the pinion bearing is. Any ideas. I got my gears and instalation kit from moser. I am pulling my hair out over this. Some thing just cant be right.

The taller the gear (higher numerical #) the thicker the ring gear becomes until they finally make contact with the pinion support bearing area. Your only option is to carefully clearance the area with a die grinder so the ring gear does not hit. Take as little out as needed and blend it smoothly with no sharp edges so you don't create a stress riser.

hmm maybe that is just it. The gears are 4:30s, but i thought no mods were needed till they get around 4 60-s. The other2 things that are wierd is that the detroit locker that i have is also ver very close to the support, and the carrier seems to be shifted off center quite abit in the caps.

I have been building my own (and all my friend's) 9" rears for about 17 years and I have had to clearance pumkins with gears smaller than 4:30, it just depends upon the individual housing you have and all the components.

Contact Moser and ask how they want you to measure for the axles. More than Likely they want the overall flange to flange measurement of the housing and the distance from each flange to the center of the pumkin opening. That should be all the dimensions necessary but since I don't make axles I would suggest asking Moser.
