That's actually a black Mustang you're looking at. The blue is protective film.

I think the reason that they didn't paint under the hood is that the sound deadening liner they put on the hood covers it anyway. They don't plan ahead for those of us that have all these mods in mind.

That pale tan thing under the engine hold the whole front chassis and engine/trans on what's called a moon-buggy (orange thing). There is a rear moon-buggy behind it as well. They travel on a separate line and workers build up the parts then it meets up with the body clamshell, the yellow tube hanging thing and the moon-buggies lift the chassis/powertrain up into place... Those blue things are just like what they put on your fenders at the oil change place... protects from scratches from buttons, belt buckles... as a just-in-case.

From there it will travel on until the wheels get put on with 5-spindle nutrunners then the clamshell moves down on the track and as the tires rest on the conveyors, it opens up (clamshell) and lifts away. Then the center console, seats and doors are added, then it's pretty much done.

It's really quite amazing that there aren't more scratches and damage to the paint right from the factory.
