Grady's playing with ya. He's actually been running a Pioneer SFI balancer as I recall. Or he's been holding out on me. I know we all keep the combos a little secretive and Mr Grady is a very savvy guy, but it's just a balancer.

I would have gone the non SFI PP route on the fox but they were backordered like crazy (many years ago). I'd not hesitate to use one on a stockish motor however. I've only come across one guy who complained about his and he offered no constructive criticism (comments like "that balancer sucks" doesn't cut it for me, so I disregard those).

Good luck.

I picked up a non SFI one today at a local speed shop plus the spacer, install shall begin tonight... so far it looks like a decent piece. Probably made in China but for a pretty stock motor like mine it should do fine .

I just put the same one on this weekend. Please take the time and change the front seal. I thought I'd get lucky and not do it, but now my 150K mile motor has it's first leak

I have one on my 88, and so far so good. My stock damper had spun and had a slight wobble to it, I replace it with the PP 50oz (along with my front crank seal) and the whole car felt much smoother. It was actually surprising how much of a difference it makes, going from a slightly out of balance stocker to a nice PP.

I know my friend. We have the same balancer so I was just playin around.

FWIW, I have misread acronyms myself. My juvenile sense of humor makes me snicker when I read "PP" - that was the only thing that caught my attention. Lately I've been leaving small words out of sentences. I'm losin it.

In need of some edjumecation

Sorry to hijack here, but now seems like a good time to ask this since I've been wondering for a while now:
What is the difference between an SFI and non-SFI balancer? What does SFI stand for? And whats the difference between those and a Romac balancer? Help a confused brother out

that's actually a good question. The spacer is .950 thick and the stock bolts are about 1" long so you'd think a 2" bolt would work but it doesnt (found that out today ). The weight on the PP balancer is on the inside behind 2 of the bolt holes and the 2"ers will bottom out. I think 1-1/2" bolts would work best...

SFI stands for SEMA Foundation Inc. (although no longer associated with SEMA). It's a safety sanctioning body that sets up standards for parts to adhere to. Stuff that can explode like flywheels, balancers, clutches etc must be SFI approved for certain tracks for cars running certain times. This assures you don't have something that can take your foot off . But for avid street stangers non SFI approved stuff is fine, most of the SFI stuff is required when you're in the 11s somewhere.

SFI parts IMO are build with a little more quality in mind

My factory ones were too short but somehow I had 4 grade 8 bolts in a bolt bin in my garage that were just right . Sorry I didn't get sizes

Romac stuff is really nice. Some of the best IMHO. I run their aluminum balancer ...its sexy nice, sexy light but it comes with a not so sexy price. Still i love it. I saw a PP intake going on a 454 chevy (very shotty) and I didn't like the quality nor do I like that its made in china. I vowed then not go get their products. But that was 6 yrs. ago so there quality could be better now. I havent heard of any problems with their balancers...BUT I still wouldent buy one.

I know I will catck flack for this one. But I think everyone will agree romac is better!

Romac quality is top notch and so is Pioneer. Once I catch up on bills and put a built tranny in one of those will find it's way onto the crank. Nothing wrong with the PP I have now, just for upgrade reasons.

i'm happy with mine so far. used non-stock bolts for the pulley from the local hardware store. it looks much nicer than the stock piece and the price was right.
