Progress made on valves/lifters...got some more Q's

If they had too much pre load all you valves would be open. I know my car wouldn't even start like that. The engine had no compression all. The valves ended up being opened a few thousandths, incorrect pushrod lenth was my problem..

With the stock hydraulic lifters on a 5.0 anyways i didnt know you could over tighten it by 2 turns unless your The Hulk or something. To set them all you do is tighten the rockers to i think 25 foot pounds. You can only turn the rocker bolt maybe 1 full turn after 25 ftlb and that would make it like 100ftlb. Am i right? Maybe you have aftermarket rockers or something. On my heads i cut the seats and valves. But when i cut the valves i didnt cut down the top of the valves to make up for the loss of valve face.My mistake . I was talking to a very good shop and he said i would have to put in some shims to raise the rocker arms b/c at the time i had like 75 psi compression b/c the valves were opening way too soon. So i went down to the hardware store and i bought a thin piece of brass which fit perfectly in the thing that keeps the rocker inline. All i did was put a straight edge on top of the valve tips all the way across the head and see what valves were below the highest one and put in shims to raise the rockers to the proper level. But to answer your question Yes it probably would run like crap, mine still ran just like yours but would have very low compression.
