actually, i've heard a lot of good things about them..usually most couple them with a timing advancer or a programmer that can change the timing for you...most say they have a nice Seat of the Pants feel and i'm eventually going to pick some up myself...i would think steeda, march, or mac would be good choices

I recomend Steeda's pulleys, they are S.F.I. approved and unlike BBK's it is a one piece ballancer that replaces the factory one, BBK makes you bolt on a different pulley to the back of the stock one. I have the Steeda's and have had no problems.

Yes if you're going to get some, get the Steeda ones. They are the best out there. Also if you ever want to go the route of a timing adjustor, I don't think it will work with piggyback style pulleys. I have the Steeda ones and have been happy with them.

Steeda UD pulleys here and no problems. I felt some gain from them also.

I have Steedas and love them. Good SOT pants feel for a cheap upgrade. Definitely couple it with a T/A or programmer.(programmer if possibe, but I am biased) and you will really feel a difference!!

Installed Steeda pulleys some weeks ago. Not a big difference but the car pulls a bit stronger through whole register. Definitely worth it!
Only thing to be aware of is a bit harder steering at really low speed, and on some occasions I've noticed some lower charging at idle when using rear window defroster. Pretty easy install if you follow instructions.

I have steeda U/Ds and I felt absolutely NO SoTP gains, however I can now go up hills in 5th where before I had to drop to 3rd or 4th, cant accelrate up em much, but no MPH loss, thats the only gain I can confirm with em.

IMO I dont think U/D pullies are a good idea.

They replace your crank, water pump, and alternator pulley.

smaller crank...ok...put t/a with that and it will run correctly

smaller water pump...bad...less cooling and more heat engine has to disperse

smaller alt.....inbetween...just wont charge battery as good.

If you do get them...keep your stock alt pulley on so you get a good charge.

The only pulley I would change would be the crank and only doing so if I had a programmer/ timing adjuster.

Some thoughts.

Yeah, some thoughts, but some bad advice...
You apparently know nothing about underdrive pulleys, so please don't give advice. If all three replacement pulleys were smaller, don't ya think the belt would, like, fall off??!?!? And smaller pulleys would mean the device they are attached to would actually spin faster given the same engine speed.
The truth of the matter is, Steeda U/D pulleys are proven to make power, even with SN-95s, though not as much as they did with the 5.0 motor - this is simply because Ford has done a better job of engineering the OEM pulleys. The crank pulley is smaller, but the water pump and alternator are larger. The way underdrive pulleys add power is that they reduce parasitic drag on the engine. Drag, or friction, is created by engine accessories and by slowing the speed of the accessory drive belt, the accessories spin slower, thus reducing friction or parasitic drag. The result is increased power to the wheels.

Agreed.

Another vote for Steeda U/D pulleys. No cooling, charging , or any problems.

???

i was thinking of getting a set of pulleys but have been thinking. maybe im thinking too hard, but i was thinking that, yeah sure you are putting smaller pulleys on so that the components run slower to get more power.??? they are still getting there power from the crank, right? so they are still drawing power (friction/drag) no matter how slow the components spin. so the only real way to gain power on the pulleys is to make them so they dont pull power from the engine. right???

Wrong, a small pulley spins faster, the main pulley (the crank or whatever) is used 100% of the time, its smaller, so it spins faster, the rest are a bit larger.... I'm talking out of my ass now...

Any how the "accessories" are in fact getting less power, but if youre hot, roll the windows down, if youre cold, the heat is mostly off the engine, the fan is the only thing running, the only thing I've heard is that A/C is weakend, I never use the thing so I dont know, cars run great for 6 months now, its a daily driver

what is the idea behind getting a timing adjuster or programmer with underdrive pulleys?

FWIW, March also has a SFI approved set and I think you can pick between aluminum and steel.

Are there ANY negative side effects to installing these pullies? I was looking on Stangnet's partshopper and it said this about them, "These pulleys slow down your accessories about 25%, reducing the drag on your engine. They can even bump up gas mileage." What does the mean about slowing down the accessories? And does that mean that these pulling will INCREASE your MPG? I always thought they decreased it.

Making the crank pulley smaller and the accesory pullies bigger will cause the accessory pullies to turn slower. Turning them slower is what free's up the HP. This means that your water pump and alternator will be turning more slowly. This causes the alt to have to work harder to put out the same voltage at idle as it does now. Also the water pump won't pump quite as fast at idle as it does now. Once your moving everything is turning quicker so your fine.

if you have some giant stereo system in the car then putting on the alt. pulley might be a bad idea. Or if your car tends to run a little on the hot side then putting on the water pump might no be a good idea. But for the most part under normal circumstances it won't hurt anything.

They can increase your MPG since they are putting less load on the engine.
